Trouble finding hitch for non BT Titan, help plz

Hey guys, I've got an 05 Titan no big tow. Next year I'd like to but a decent sized camper but I've been told by a hitch place and by my local nissan dealership all they can put on it is a class 3 6k rated hitch. I've seen many threads of folks w/o big tow pulling large travel trailers, boats etc. that certainly weigh more than 6k. So I assume there must be a way to get a class 4 hitch on this thing, can someone help me out and let me in on the secret. Thanks for the help.

You can put the factory hitch on or any place like Uhual and stuff have hitch for your Titan. Even without the BT your LE can still tow 7200 lbs. Factory is your best bet cause it comes with all neccessary relays and harness. Anyone say you can't put it is full off sh*ts, my friend just got a Nissan factory hitch put on his SE CC.

Nissan said they would put the hitch on for me but only the class 3 rated at
6k. Is this what you're referring to as the factory hitch? I would like to have the class 4 hitch to at least max out the trucks towing capacity.

There is only one hitch available from Nissan. It is a class IV rated hitch when used with a weight distributing hitch.

Get the hitch kit from Nissan. It's worth it and saves a lot of hassle. You get everything you need. Relays, 7 pin pigtail matches the wiring under your bumper, etc. Bolts right up, plugs right in and you are on your way with no headaches. I paid 240 (I think) at the dealer but you can get the same thing at yournissanparts.com for less.

You'll also have brake controller wiring near the steering column under the dash. Another plug and play. It helps you stay safe. I think at about 2,000 lbs and over it helps a lot.

At that point, the only mechanical limit is your gears, and I don't know if there are any charts or figures to help you out.

Just guessing, but I'd knock 1 0r 2k off the limit for a similar bigtow package Titan.

Qwik is right, the class 3/4 hitch is a class 3 with a standard ball, and a class 4 with the weight distribution hitch.

Happy Towing!!!!!!!!!!!

When you do get your hitch and you will do a lot of towing, don't forget to buy a tranmission cooler. I was looking at getting one for 60 bucks at Advanced Auto Parts. From what I'm told, very easy to install.

True, like I said, mechanically, your truck will be the same as a BigTow truck except for the higher gears. They WILL reduce your capacity.

The trans already has a cooler so adding one isn't necessary.

Shows you how much I don't get to play with my Titan. Only seen it for 2 weeks, but have owned it since March. It will be December before I get to see it again.

Re: Trouble finding hitch for non BT Titan, help plz

Keep in mind also, if your truck says 6400, 7400 or 9500LB tow capacity, nothing you can add will make it legal to tow any higher than what the manufacturer rated your model. So if you ever got into any sort of trouble, be it an accident etc, and you were over the manufacurers rating for your model and equiptment, you can be held liable. But so long as you plan on being under the 7400 LB rating, you should be ok.
