Re: need Advice/Help
I went through a similar situation last week when dealing on a Titan. It was pretty easy to get them down to invoice (plus you keep the rebate or get the financing). But then they want to give you "black book" (a private system based on auction data) for your trade instead of blue book. KBB wholesale was $10,200 on my car and both dealers I went to wanted to give me $8000. After a bunch of negotiation where I came down to $9700 for my car, I told the first one no and left. The second one finally gave me $9700 as I was getting ready to walk. My advice
1) Take the emotion out of it. If you don't get the deal you want, go to another dealer. New Titans are a commodity - you can always find another one or wait for the 07s. The worst that can happen is that you drive your current truck a while longer.
2) Look at some of the calculators on line that compare the financing to the rebate. In most cases the rebate is better and there are some good new car loans at credit unions (mine has 4.75% for 48 months).
New vehicles are wonderful but once you decide you want to buy it worse than they want to sell it, you are going to pay more than you have to.
BTW - the first dealer I went to called me two days later wanting to give me $9700 for my car. I really enjoyed telling him that another dealer had already given me the deal he had turned down.
