My service light came on in my Titan and i brought my truck into the dealer. They called me and said they had to replace the ENGINE due to the fuel system not puting enough pressure and creating to much air in the catalytic conveter, which cracked and the mesh inside had been sucked into the motor and destroying it.Unbelievable I know.
The then could not seem to get the right catalytic converter to replace my old one so they installed what they claim is a redesigned OEM part. Let me explain ......the original part was 2" in diameter, the new part is 2 5/8 of an inch in diameter. this would be ok however they never changed the rest of the pipes so now i have the air flow being restricted by 5/8 of an inch as it passes through the catalytic converter and into the tail pipes. Not to mention it looks totally different from the old part, shape and size.
I was wondering if anyone had any insight to this. I think the part they put on my truck is for a 4x4 and my truck is not.
no they left the old pipes on so coming from the motor the pipe gets smaller at one point nd i'm not talking like a funnel it's butted up against each other. i will post some pics thursday.

Fishy is right. If the mesh had broken up within the converter, there is no way it could be SUCKED backwards towards the engine. It might rattle like crazy or plug the converter, but not return to the combustion chamber. Think about it guys, the exhaust is a PRESSURIZED system with flow away from the engine, not a vacuum. Dealership is feeding you a line of crap...
This has been talked about on here bfore, I think two other times. Both with same sypmtoms-the ceramic inside the cat breaking and being sucked back into the engine.
Whether he's telling the truth or not, he's not been the only one to say it.
I do, however, find it 'odd' that it's the first thing these ppl post about...

Same thing happened to fluffybunnyfeet only the service morons rebuilt the engine rather than giving him a new one like they should have. His Titan was in so long he got a buy back and is replacing it with a new Titan. Check his posts. I know he is legit because I have had service at the same dealership and discussed his case with a service tech.
It happens and has been a problem with the early Altimas.
