Oil question

I have not changed my own oil before and am goin to start doing it myself to not pay the stealership. Do I need a special tool to get the oil filter off? For you guys that do it yourself do you put 6.5 or 7 quarts in? How much is it for reg. oil and filter compared to synthetic, and what would be the best reg oil and synthetic oil for the Titan? Sorry for the novice question, I need to save $ for mods!!!!

Re: Oil question

No, just keep all your receipts, oil filter, oil, etc.. A log book of when you did it and at what mileage would be a good thing.

Re: Oil question

I am not an expert but here is what I know.

I use a socket type oil filter wrench.

Any brand name 5W-30 (or even 10W-30 in Cali) should be fine and would cost about $16 at Wally world plus the filter. Double the price for a synthetic oil.

Not all filters are that great. The nissan OEM is very good and is less than $10. Fram filters have a bad rep. Wix filters (Napa golds are the same thing) have a good rep and cost about $6.

Oil analysis is a new interest of mine. I have seen some guys with K&N filters have a high levels of silicone (think sand or dirt) in there samples. Of course others are just fine. My whole point is that I personally would not stretch your oil change interval to far, say Schedule 2 (that's what they call it right) in your owners manual which is 3750 miles.

Again, this is just my opinion and you know what they say about those.
