Cheap way out for new tires

With a minimal selection of 18" tires available and a staggering cost for the ones I really wanted (around $1000 for 4 Michelins)..... I went the easy route and bought 3 new stock Goodyears and pulled my spare to be #4.... I now have an old tire for a spare but who really cares? And the 3 tires installed cost $545....

They certainly aren't the best tires I have ever owned but they've been okay for the type of drivng I do (90% commuting on freeways and main streets) I got 33K out of them the first time around and could have milked a couple more thousand if I had to.

Just thought I would share this option since I haven't seen it mentioned before and I had forgot the truck came with a full size spare until the other day when I was under my truck.

Re: Cheap way out for new tires

I thought about doing that too but I found some bridgstone revo's that had a 50,000 mile warranty for $800. Seemed worth the extra $200 for another 25k miles out of the tires. Atleast by the time you need to change them again they'll have some cheaper alternatives.

Re: Cheap way out for new tires

I have an even better idea. Just keep your eyes on the "for sale" section. A lot of TT members switch to 20"+ tires and wheels as soon as they buy their trucks and are willing to let their practically new tires and wheels go for cheap.
I bought two sets of tires and wheels already mounted and balanced several months ago. Of course they are the original equipment Goodyears and Rugged Trails, not the best tires you can get but heck if you can get them cheap enough they are still a good buy.
I run the 18" Goodyears in the Summer and will switch to the 17" Rugged trails in the Fall.

That's not a bad idea.

I thought of that too. I guess I'm just too lazy and/or skeptical to work out payment and shipping, make sure I get what's advertised, etc.

Maybe someday I'll get over my 'ebay phobia'

Re: Cheap way out for new tires

i'm with you tnbowhunter, my titan came with the 17" w/ the offroad pkg, still got the crappy bfg rugged trail on those with about 25k of use, also have a set of 18" wheel and tire off of an armada. when the bfg's are done alreay have a set of gy mtr's(17's) waiting to be mounted. thinking of getting another set of wheels though. overkill...i know.
