What Kelvin rating are your HIDs and how do you like them?...

Okay, since the price has fallen to $150 I just have to have HIDs now. Basically I want to know what color HIDs you are running in your Titan, how you like them, and what you would get if you could do it all over again. I'm considering between 6000k and 12000k.

Thanks,
-Cyrus

Re: What Kelvin rating are your HIDs and how do you like them?...

I don't have a kit on my Titan yet, but I had a 6000K kit on my last car. It was a great color and awesome light output. I wouldn't go any higher than 6000...IMO they look very ricey and not near as good.

4300k. had it in all my other cars. anything above 4300 you lose light, no matter what your eyes tell you. you lose it, simple as that.

Why didn't you like the 4300 bulbs? I'm looking for max light output, not some "cool" color and was thinking about a set of 4300's...

Yeah there was a post a while back with a scientific explanation,.

Basically most light output and whiteness is between 4300 and 5700.

Il give up that tiny bit of extra light for the extra luxury and just awesome look...lol...compared to halogens...its gonna be way brighter either way and the dif between 4300 and 6000 is VERY MINIMAL

Re: What Kelvin rating are your HIDs and how do you like them?...

I just ordered some 12K for both the Titan and my bike. And I admit the look was a big factor for me, not just the functionality. Although I think it's safe to assume that a 12K HID setup will still be vastly superior to halogen. Time will tell, they should be here Wednesday.

We have the 6k in the Quest. I originally had the 8k and got rid of them within a week....WAAAAAY too blue, you couldn't even see. The 6k have that perfect balance between bright white and that Mercedes bluish tint. You won't believe how far ahead street signs light up as well as painted lines in the road. Amazing. I think all cars should have them just for safety. In the rain they are an absolute necessity.

That's all I needed to hear. Just ordered a set of 6000ks for myself - came to $162.94 shipped. Thanks Hudson!

You'll love HIDs. As mentioned, I also ordered this set (same shipped price as you) for the Titan.

Oh...also!.......remember, some manufacturers will allow an exchange for different bulbs if you find yourself not liking the color (or you can just buy another set of another kelvin rating, about $100 for a set). So long as you have the main parts, (ballast/igniter), you can change the bulb to whatever color you want at any time! That'
s how I en ded up with the 6k from the original 8k bulbs.

until you pull up next to a 4300k bulbs.. then it becomes quite noticable

i wish we could get some nice headlights with nice projectors already in. then you can run normal temps and still get that hue.

to each his own. trucks here don't even have hids so it's hard to compare objectively.
