Question: What's better than a $37 Timing Advance?

Answer: Getting it for free. And a camber kit thrown in for good measure.

Apparently, although the service guy originally quoted me 37 dollars to connect and advance my timing two degrees, one of the other service gents (the manager, I'm inferring, who also has a Titan) saw fit to put it under the "first year & 12,000 miles" category.

I had always been SUPER friendly, chatting it up with him and never being the d!ck customer, who knows if it's run-of-the mill for him, but it certainly was a nice surprise.

Now, the camber kit was a more common issue that I don't think should have been charged, but it's still nice to see a line of big fat zeros under "Total Costs"

PRG minilift camber problem

I'm not lifted, but it's not the first time I've seen this.

Re: Question: What's better than a $37 Timing Advance?

My dealer threw in the camber kit (alignment cam bolts and washers) free of charge and performed a free alignment even after I brought it in with the PRG 2" leveling kit. The '06 Titans don't come with these alignment bolts or washers, so I used the TSB out there to get this installed for free.

I'll have to see if I can swing a free timing advance out of them now.

Man, you have to hook me up with this guy. I am in Tucson, and want the timing advance, but both Jim Click and Thoroughbred told me "NO WAY!".

Which dealer, and what is the guy's name ??

PS they also refused to budge on camber kit, and I shelled out $200 for all the hardware, and had it done somewhere else.....

Congrats on the free timing advance. My SM said he would do for free but said it is a waste of time IHO.

You're preachin' to the chior, son....I've been a pro-smootcher since way back....I've learned that it's not important to hit the hole, just as long as you hit the cheek.

Re: Question: What's better than a $37 Timing Advance?

Great find on the free timing advance, I got mine free too when the truck was in for something else. I know it takes a few minutes to do the procedure, but if you can't get it for $20 or less, you are overpaying IMO.

Re: Question: What's better than a $37 Timing Advance?

One question...

Why would a dealer even attempt advancing the timing? For what reason? Was it off....was it not running properly?

Where have YOU been? You have 3k posts and in none of them have you seen the benefits of a timing advance?

Pretty much all vehicles ever built (especially first year runs when they are sacrificing power for reliability) can benefit from advancing the spark timing. The net result is a cleaner burn, resulting in less emissions and more power. If I am not mistaken, there is another vehicle with the same engine as ours whose only difference is a timing advancement (resulting in greater hp ratings).... QX56 anyone?

Dealerships that do timing advance?...

Sorry to be so snide but who doesn't know about this? I have 100 posts and I've seen at least 20 threads on this... including one in every third signature.

Andrew
