Re: Foglights on with parking lights
So every time I lock or unlock my titan the parking lights flash and the HID's will attempt to go on?
If so I don't think I will do this mod as it will DRASTICALY wear the HID's out in no time...That is the absolute worst thing you can do to them....
Or will the HID's only attempt to flash if I leave the foglight switch on while locking/unlocking the truck?
Or is this not an issue at all with the stock alarm system?
I'm almost tempted to just wire the HID"s to another switch altogether I don't understand why the stock setup is so crappy....

Re: Foglights on with parking lights
no no...even with them switched on they will not go on...at least not on mine... BUT when I remote start the truck I had the alarm to blink my parking lights SO it would flash on and off cuz the truck was on and it would go with the parking lights because they are giving them power through the relay (im pretty sure thats how it works cuz u connect one wire to the park lights)...SO now the way I setup the alarm the park lights stay on constant and so do the fog HIDs... this is with my remote start only...when I unlock or lock the truck they do NOT go on...ONLY when I remote start the truck...what sucks but I get this with my low beams also, do u guys get this too? When the truck is remote starting, the HIDs flicker on and turn off THEN the truck turns on and the lights stay on(constant - fogs/lows) BUT I always keep the auto lights on and this is at night...

I dunno I just have an SE I don't have all that high tech stuff :P
I'm still unsire where you put the relay and how it powers the Foglights since I have never used one before...
Let me see if I have this straight.
1) 2 wires need to be spliced/soldered into both the Foglight Power wires and then into connection 87 (what gauge wire? how long of a run?)
2) I have to connected the blue wire from the stalk into 85, and tape off the green wire?
3) I have to locate the Parking Light wire (whatever that is? I have no clue) and add a fuse to it (What rating?) and plug this into 86
4) Then I have to run a fused wire (again what size fuse?) directly from the battery the relay 30as well?
Sounds very complicated to acomplish something so simple. however I'm up for the challenge if I can get some clarification.
What is "the parking lights wire" and are you connecting a new wire from the battery terminals as well?

shoot I dont remember this stuff..lol... I believe the park light wire is the blue/red wire that comes from the...shoot I dont remember where its located...Im sorry im not gonna be much help...the thing I did different though cuz I didnt wanna go all the way to the battery was get power from my ignition wire (12V)...Also, I just connected a wire to the drivers side fog (+) wire... the 2 fogs are already connected together and grounded...I used like 14 ga wire maybe?? and Im sure any fuse will work just go to a like radio shack and get an inline fuse holder which should already come with a tiny fuse... if that blows well get a bit bigger...I dont know what these guys are using... I didnt use a fuse because I feel safe with everything the way it is... I know the more fuses the better cuz ur protecting everything but I didnt feel this necessary to use one...
maybe someone else can chime in to help u with everything else

So the relay is located inside the cab or outside the cab? I was thinking I would have to find all these wires outside of the cab? Now I'm really confused...
I have a feeling I'm going to cut those wires off the stalk and then not be able to find any other wires that are required and end up soldering these 2 wires back to the stalk and wasting about 4 hours of time...
1) Where are the 2 fogs connected together?
2) Where are you tapping into the power wires for the foglihts (near the Ballast?)
3) Where is the parking light wire located?
Inside the Cab?
outside the Cab?
By the fuse box?
Some other wiring harness?
Is it already fused?
4) So your powering your lights off the ignition wire? For some reason that sounds like a really bad idea. Especialy since HID's can pull a large current while they are warming up.
I'm compleatly lost on where your tapping into wires...
Where you purchased this relay...
Where the new power source is coming from that feeds the Foglights...
I can figure out fuse rating and I do have some decent electrical knowledge but I feel like certain info is not being shared to prevent people from doing this mod. Surely someone must know! I don't have the $400 truck manual either...
Just need some help but the only wires I can clearly see are the 2 inside the stalk?
I have no idea where to even locate the other wires...

Re: Foglights on with parking lights
The two wire inside the stalk is use to throw a relay. You can access parking light source (Red w/ blue stripe) inside the fuse box itself under the hood. If you don't want your fog/hid to flash with the alarm just turn of the fog/hid lights with the switch on the stalk.

I think ur making this harder than it is? Are u confortable at all with electrical stuff?? Also taking the stock apart and such is like a 10 min thing taking ur time...its the wiring and stuff that will take u a while...I just ran ONE wire out the cab which is the wire attached to the Fog (+) wire... ye that was located where the HID ballast connects to the factory wiring (in the factory wiring [2 wires]) I dont know the color but just use a multimeter before u take stuff apart to find out which is (+)... The parking light wire, yes is indside the cab around the stalk area as well...to the left...shoot I dont know where my head is right now I cant remember I usually remember all this stuff...
"4) So your powering your lights off the ignition wire? For some reason that sounds like a really bad idea. Especialy since HID's can pull a large current while they are warming up." U have a relay...lol...are u familiar with electrical stuff?? ALSO, most of these kits are direct plug and play...I and most others (dont know bout u) are just plugging em in...do u have YOURS connected to the battery directly??
my relay I just got it at a auto parts store...it was like 8 bucks "heavy duty" 30A relay....
oh and the manual if u want can be had WAY CHEAPER than 400 bucks WAY cheaper
anyway, good luck seems like Im not helping...sorry I couldnt give more info or explanation

lol..that is true but thats what I like bout my auto-lights...I never mess with the lights and they are always on...
I wanted this mod so I could turn on the fogs during the day (and at night, my fogs ARE BRIGHT so SOMETIMES when just chilling at night)and cruise with just them and the parking lights...I like the look...then with my halos on and the fogs only...it looks sweet...

Edit: Pi I somehow missed your previous post, must have posted this at the same time or something. I am VERY comfortable with electrical stuff and understand how a relay works I have just never used one. from my uinderstanding by connecting to your ignition to the relay you are powering the HID"s off the ignition wire rather than the factory harness correct?
baseballfanz Ok that's one answer thanks! Still don't know he following...
Both wires are used to throw the relay or the green one is grounded? and the Blue is connected to the relay? What exactly is the Green Wire grounding the switch?
How are you running wires outside of the stalk? I mean are they just dangeling out of the stalk or what?
It seems that the foglights would not flash unless tuck is on if you were to power from the ignition as oposed to powering directly from the battery. So maybe that's is a good thing. You say I am using the relay, so you are suggesting that the relay is not directly powering the HID's? My HID's are using the stock harness I have no problems with that at all.
Where is a good place to ground the green wire to?
Why do I even have to cut that wire if it is already grounded? (This wire is NOT grounding the fogs correct?)
Where can I tap into the Foglight wire before it splits for both lights? (In the fuse box under the hood as well?)
I'm __ close to understanding, but I'm still unclear of a few KEY answers.

Re: Foglights on with parking lights
the ignition wire is there coming from the ignition....Im sorry I grabbed other wires that I know of from installin my alarm and remote start etc... Maybe I ddint do it like everyone else... I the wire at the fog light...u know the connector that connects to the stock fog light bulbs right? ok before that connector I spliced the (dont know the color of the bat) positive wire (again u can check with a multimeter before attempting)... all the other wires can be grabbed right there under the dash around the stalk area...I well try and look for wire colors and locations and get those for u... I used to have a sheet that gave me colors and locations but cant find it...

ok SWEET!
So I assume the best place to mount the relay is under the dash then.
So you would just have to run the power wire for the fog lights outside the truck.
Then use a splitter off of that wire so that you can power both foglights correct?
So Essentialy you ARE powering the HID's directly from the ignition wire, but you are powering them from both ignition wire and from the factory harness if you run them with the lowbeams. Correct?
*Just so you are aware, HID's can pull something like 6-7 amps each at startup, so unless your ignition wire is greater 11 gauge then you do risk melting that wire. At least according to this table http://www.powerstream.com/Wire_Size.htm. Since essentialy your running 2 HID's off that stock ignition wire when the lowbeams are off. I will definately be puttign something like an 8 amp fuse in there. I may even just runt he power from my distribution block from my sterio rather than the ignition, but then I would probably have the problem with the lights flashing if I forget to turn the foglights off...

it might just be about 12 ga wire for the ignition wire...its thicker than the rest of the wire in the truck...
and like I said I just used one wire to that one drivers fog light...since theyre still connected through the truck and the factory harness (ur just tapping in) they are tied in together and both lights light up...

Re: Foglights on with parking lights
Ok Great! This does not sound so bad after all, I have some nice beefy wire with extra insulation for the HID's but I will need to pickup some thin stuff for attaching to the Blue wire in the switch.
Where did you route the wire through the firewall for the HID's? And where exactly did you mount the Relay on that little tray under the steering wheel and dash?
How did you route the 2 smaller wires coming from the Stalk? Now if you remove the Stalk, there will be wires attached to it from the relay lol.
Finaly did you solder all your connections or use some kinda crimps (Like those blue ones that allow you to connect additional wires) not too fond of those...
I still think it is a ridiculous amount of work for what it is lol. But I'm going to do it this weekend or next...
Thanks for everyones help!

its actually hardly any work, well not like hard work or anything...I ran my wire through a small hole I had previously made for the siren wire that I ran for my extra alarm... Im not understanding the question bout how I wired my HIDs...theyre plug and play to the factory stuff... man I will have to take picture or something for u...lol... I used the crimps that slide on for the attaching of the relay and I soldered and tape the other wire attachments...
the relay has a holed tab and I just attached it on a bolt under the dash...

Re: Foglights on with parking lights
Could someone write this out step by step. I'm not too sure how this wiring is supposed to be and I don't want to mess this up. Other than a 30amp relay, what else do I need to buy?
