Need to secure ATV in bed (lock it down)

Anyone have an idea how I can secure my ATV in my bed? The stock tie down loops are thin and could be cut easily. Are there any after market products? I have to keep the tailgate down and do not want a cable going down to bumper to secure it.

Re: Need to secure ATV in bed (lock it down)

I use the stock loops in the bottom of the side walls in the bed. I use ratchet straps and strap down a 550lb polaris with no problems. I have a standard drop in liner and that's it.

Secure as in locking it, so it cannot be stolen?

Re: Need to secure ATV in bed (lock it down)

Can you put a cable through the stake holes in the bed? Mine has a bedliner, so it is not an option for me. I also carry an ATV in the back of my truck with the tailgate down, but have never really needed to lock it for any reason. Always took it off when I reached my destination.

Mount some I bolts in the bed. You could always tack weld them if bolting them isn't enough for you. Then you would have something to chain up to.

Re: Need to secure ATV in bed (lock it down)

Thanks guys. I do not want jerk stealing it from my bed so I need to find a way to lock it in. I do not think the stock tie down loops are very strong. I will look at adding a new heavy duty loop to the bed.

Re: Need to secure ATV in bed (lock it down)

The truth is that should a real thief wish to take your ATV it will soon be gone regardless of your attempts to keep it.

The best you can do is is to try not to tempt the semi honest public and in this regard you have a few options.

I would suggest using a cable lock for attaching the rt and left front side of your ATV to your trucks hold-downs.

A couple of straps would finish securing your ATV for the ride, and the cables would deter the average person from attempting to remove it from your truck.

A real thief will go hunting for such a prize with all the tools he will need to bring it home, and no chain or cable thats feasible for your use will hold up long against a heavy duty bolt cutter or hack saw. The key is to make your ATV look less worth the effort than the one that belongs to your neighbor.

There not going to attack the loop at the bottom of your bed, it's easier to go after the cable/chain that secures it to your truck.

PS: ATV full coverage insurance is cheap and gives a great deal of peace of mind.
