purpose of helper springs

what is the reason for getting helper springs?

So your truck doesnt sag down when you put a load on it. my dad has them on his dodge when pulling a horse trailer.

Nice thing is, they don't affect the ride under normal conditions. They only come into action when a load is placed on them. That is better than investing in stiffer springs, as they could tend to produce a much rougher ride.

I don't have them on this truck. Had them on my last truck. I think they were Hellwig. I used to load that 1/2-ton up. Had 1 1/8 ton on it once with a pallet of CMU block. She sat down, but didn't choke. I had mine put on by a spring & shock shop along with the 5-leaf heavier-duty units.
