Well, I recently changed the oil in my 04 Titan (5w-30w synthetic, Mobil 1 M-110 filter) and my oil pressure is acting funny. When my truck is first started the oil pressure goes high to 3/4 on the gauge. If I get on the gas hard it spikes to damn near max. I originally thought I had a blockage, but as the engine heated up my pressure drops into the normal range. I am guessing on the "heating up part" because the oil pressure goes back to normal after about 5 minutes. Any ideas on WTF is going on?

I just started seeing the exact same thing. I just switched to M1 5W30. Had used 0W40 previous 2 changes and 5W30 for 1 change before that. New vehicle with about 14,500 now. I never saw this spiking before. It really caught my attention. Several threads here with same response - "Normal". Still bothers me. I'd like to stick with the 5W30 as it is available at Sam's Club for less than the 0W40 at Auto Parts Stores. May try 0W40 again to see if the spike effect is lessened. Engine runs great though, quick quick....
I do Engine Oil Analysis on each change, and use the WIX filter. Based in part on JetTech's Threads.

I noticed this especially when the weather turned cold, as have dozens of others on here. It just spikes because the oil is cold and thicker than at operating temps. Once it warms up a little, it's in the midrange where it should be. That's just what it does.
I did not recall this the first time I had 5W30. but as I read so much tonight, I'm not worried.
Most intersting info: We have a real pressure gage, stated by someone that most gages from OEM's are just a switched display. As long as pressure is 7 psi or better, the gages stay in middle, never showing true fluctuations.
Thanks TitanTalk for so much info when needed, and thanks Blackbeauty!

All of our Titans do this. We have an active pressure gage which reads actual oil pressure. Most other oil pressure gages are inactive, meaning that they just let you know that you have oil pressure not the actual pressure. It's normal for the pressure to be higher at startup and when you jump on it (higher RPM=higher pressure) when the truck warms the pressure will drop to the middle of the gage and not change as much. (viscosity is less because the engine oil has warmed)
