Hey jerbroni! Gee, I feel like a Goodfella from Joisey! LOL!! Anyway, I have the Lund and yes, the E-clips can be a pain to get right. I've had mine off the truck twice now, so I'm getting pretty good at it. The steel shield has quite a bit of spring to it, so it tries to pull away from the hood out near the edges. DON'T try to bend it to conform. It WILL kink!
I have found that the best method is to attach the E-clips to the hood in the right spot after you have the wellnuts and machine screws in place in the holes on the underside of the hood. If you have someone to help you, have them push the shield down to the level of the hood that should be the final position. Align the E-clips and attach them to the hood. Then while holding the shield as you did to align the E-clips, push the plastic plug & keeper into the E-clip through the hole in the shield as far as you can. I used a philips head screwdriver to do this.
The second time I did it, the plastic keeper didn't fit as tightly, but by then, the spring of the steel had relaxed a bit so it wasn't a problem. I took some close-up pics of my E-clips and how they are attached to the hood. As you can see from the pics, the fit is not perfect and the clips don't "fully" seat in the E-clips. But they are tight and have not posed any difficulties as yet.
Hope this helps.
