New Gears For Titan??

I spoke with a major gear manufacturer today about the possibility of building new gear sets for our trucks (4:10 and 4:88 gears) for the rear and front diffs. Im sure these would be able to combine wit hhe true-track and proved much improved performance/reliability. This is not just a hype thing and these guys want to just see if people on the boards would be interested (i know the answer but need to post this anyway). I cannot disclose the gear maker but they are a very large company and easily has the ability to build these gear sets. Feel free to post comments here. Thanks...greg

Re: New Gears For Titan??

I'll buy a new gearset tomorrow. Would prefer 3:73 though.

Re: New Gears For Titan??

Would definatly love a 4.10 gearing.. my non big tow rear end sucks at the track.. would love to step up to a more agressive gearing..

Re: New Gears For Titan??

I think 4.10s would do it for me. I've been waiting to put my TruTrac in hoping gears would become available, maybe my waiting wasn't in vain

Re: New Gears For Titan??

You can put me on the list for gears as well!

However, a few questions and concerns you might want to bring up. First of all, those ratios seem awfully low for our trucks. If a Titan's stock 3.36 BT gear is equal to a 4:10 in other trucks, won't a 4:10 and especially the 4:88 be way too low? That would be great for crawling, or the drag strip, but probley not for daily driving. I think most people would be interested in a set of gears that would take a lifted truck with 35's back to the same performance as the stock 3:36. Which would be in the 3:53 range. And maybe have an option for a 3:73 for those that want to go just a little lower. Also, another issue is the Titan's computer. I know that RB's Titan is having some issues going from his stock 2:94's to the 3:36 BT gears. So wouldn't the issues be even more so with a much lower gear? The problems he is having is that the wheel speed sensors and the tranny sensor are seeing different speeds and it's causing some minor issues with cruise control, shift points, etc. So what would happen with an even greater gearing variation? Now don't get me wrong, I absolutley do want a set of front and rear gears, but I want to know they will work properly first.

Re: New Gears For Titan??

Put me on that list for the 4.10's. Would we need new axles or is just a gear swap?

Re: New Gears For Titan??

Qwik, i agree 100% with you. I am working on such a set-up right now with my truck (although using a different rear axle but with the stock tone rings) and will keep everyone posted on the results. Im trying to get hold of a consult2 to see if there is a parameter change that can be made to let the computer adapt to the new gears also. As for the rear, the axles are quite large and at 4:10 ish gearing there is still a lot of tooth engagement, the waek link is the carrier itself, replaced with the tru-trak.

Greg, i'm interested but I have a question, i'm currently running 37's so what is the proper gear ratio for this set up?

Exclamation Re: New Gears For Titan??

QWIKWHIP has some good points, I think it would be easy to go to low with our trucks.

Hayn Titan, that's not very hard to figure out, I’m guessing you would like to get back to stock performance or ratio? If so, you just take your new tires size divided by the stock tire size to get your multiplier.

So 37 / 33 = 1.1212....

Now multiply your stock gear ratio by this multiplier, and you have your new target ratio. So if you have BT that's

3.35 * 1.1212 = 3.756.

Then just find the closest standard ratio to that, for a Dana axel that's normally around 3.73.

Re: New Gears For Titan??

The drive train with these trucks is lacking aftermarket mods. I am for the gearing and new torque converter if available yet, wonder what the supercharger can really due with right gearing. There are other performance mods I would lkie to do but its all for not if we can't mod the drivetrain.

Re: New Gears For Titan??

I'm with QWIK as for a returning my lifted truck with 35's back to stock performance. So I would be interested in the 3.53 range, maybe a 3.73 since I tow once in a while.

Along those lines, I've noticed minor problems with shift points and cruise control since getting my 35's. Would changing the gears to 3.53 get the computer back in sync?
