Odometer error

My odometers on my 04 are now way underreporting mileage. I use the B for oil changes and its now not reliable. Anyone else have this problem. I did a search but didn't see a title that was relevant.

thanks

Re: Odometer error

WOW...Man I might have better MPG. I wish, I think mine is right. Same distance to work with a couple of other vehicles...I have never heard of this problem on this site.

My odometer is off around 4% (on a 10 km measured distance, my odometer shows 9.6 km).

Question for you - what do you mean when you state - "I use the B for oil changes" ???

Re: Odometer error

Most odometers and Speedometers are off slightly on vehicles. Anywhere from 1-6% . Varies by year/manufacturer/mech/digital, and many other factors. From what I have seen most are off about 3-4% at 60 mph.

Re: Odometer error

My speedometer reads about 3-4 mph high at 70, and my odometer will register 104 miles on a 100 mile trip. A & B do the same thing.

Re: Odometer error

Here is a weird one for you guys...

On a recent trip to Colorado I took my brothers GPS device with me. Speed wise if I was travelling 70 by the speedo in the truck, the GPS registered 67. However, the milage on the odometer and the milage over the trip with the GPS were the same I really do not know how to explain that one, even a 1% change from the GPS should have shown up over the 3,000+ miles we travelled.

Mine reads 95 miles for a 100 mile trip. But I do not have big tow.

Re: Odometer error

Speedometers are calibrated at the factory based on a SINGLE tire size for each model. If the truck can be configured with three different tire sizes, they will calibrate for the "middle" tire size. I got this information from a Toyota dealer when I had my Tundra with off-road tires, FWIW.

Re: Odometer error

Mine was very far off, but a while ago when I asked it seemed that most people were roughly 4% off.

Re: Odometer error

Take heart! This is not all bad.

If the odometer under-reads the mileage, then that means you get more than 36,000 miles before your truck actually hits the warranty.

I zero out the B odometer when I change the oil. Its more than 4%, could be as much as 50-60%. Way off. I am in the process of checking the main odometer against the accessory ones and will report the exact figure.

thanks

Are you sure that you just didn't reset it on accident?

the GPS registered 67
Were you looking at the speedo from the passenger seat? That can easily make it look like 67 when it's really 70

I am pretty sure its untouched. You have to hold it in for a long time for anything bad to happen. What did I just say???? Anyway since I got the GArmin 276 which by the way is a pip, I use the trip computer on the GPS for all the odometer chores and can now dedicate the onboard ones to shtuff like oil changes.
