Has this happened to anyone?

I got to work yesterday and when I went to open my tailgate I noticed my license plate had fallen off! It was just barely hanging in the space behind my bumper. Those two plastic pieces that hold it in just came out with the screws still attached and everything. Are there supposed to be some clips behind it or something? That is my only plate too!

Re: Has this happened to anyone?

That is strange. When I bought my truck I had taken the dealer advertising off as soon as my plates came in. The screws that hold it in are really tight (on my truck at least). Maybe bumby roads have loosened them over time?

Re: Has this happened to anyone?

My screws are weird because one is completly rusted and the other is not rusted at all.

The plastic inserts that the screws go in just expand slightly to hold it in place. There are no clips to hold them, so it is very possible some of them can be a touch smaller and fall out, bad design imo.

Re: Has this happened to anyone?

Mine are rock solid and nissan uses them on a bunch of vehicles. When someone tried to steal my license plate, they held just fine.

Re: Has this happened to anyone?

Sounds strange, I think someone stole it. Those things just don't fall off unless you didn't put it on yourself.

Re: Has this happened to anyone?

My plate is still on tight. However, I've noticed that the license plate does vibrate a little when the truck is idling. If I tap on the edge of the rear bumper, I can really hear the plate rattle alot. I think it may be time for some velcro.lol!

dynamat works wonders for noisy plates. just stick it to the back and it will never make a peep again.

Re: Has this happened to anyone?

Yes this happened to mine. I thought I was the only one. If the holes are drilled a little too large or elongaged the insert will work it's way loose. This is a workmanship problem with the hole drilling in the bumper. If you don't want to take it to the dealer for this just glue/epoxy the insert back in.

Re: Has this happened to anyone?

yesterday i bought a Titan (05), and when the salesman was attempting to put the rear plate on, there was no clip to screw on the right side!... so he went and took one off some other Titan in the lot! ..... then when he tried putting a plate on the front..i stopped him. NO plates on any car/truck ive ever owned on the front! (even tho its technically illegal)

on a side note, its always a good idea to bore out the screw slots on your plates anywaz. that way if someone is gonna steal plates (happens alot in CA).....its not gonna happen w a screwdriver. if you ever need to remove wm u can use vise grips.

years ago when i lived in SoCal, they stole my rear plates from a crappy Hyundai (ack!) i owned. few days later got a call from the San Diego PD saying they found my plates on a stolen car. at least i got my plates back tho.
