Tires suck

I am on my third new tire at 17,000 miles. The two ply don't hold up in any kind of rough country. Blew the side out of one while turkey hunting last April and two more since then. For the life of me I can't understand why any responsible maker of four wheel drives would put such lousey tires on a rig. That's the reason I got rid of my F250. I have tried to find stronger tires but there arn't any made that are any stronger than the standard factory tires. I would like to go to 8 or 10 ply but they don't exist yet. Want to take my Toy hauler I just got up to snow Mountain Deer hunting but almost afraid to because of the tires. Anyway, just venting boys and girls.

Re: Tires suck

Have you looked into the BFG A/T KO??? Great tires and everyone who has them have been very pleased with the performance and threadwear of it.

You got rid of a truck because of the tires? BTW 8 and 10 ply tires do exist I have them on my trucks. Kelly-Springfield and BFG both make 8 and 10 ply tires i'm sure there are others out there too.

Dan,
First off most factory tires are cheap and poorly manufactured.
Secondly there are plenty of good off-road tires, shop around.
Don't buy cheap, you get what you pay for!!

I've got those on mine and love the upgrade even though the speed suffers!

Excellent handling and wear.

Re: Tires suck

No problem with the KO's at speed - how does your suffer. Mine ride so smooth on the 285/65/18 size I did not realise how fast I was going on the highway and got a ticket (89 in a 70). Way smother and more stable than the factory badyears - did not even realise that I let it roll out so fast - first ticket in over 23 years. Oh well - time to lawyer up to beat the points.

Re: Tires suck

NO - just the first time I have gotten caught so far out of line - and deserved it! I admit when I make a mistake at least - and am willing to pay for it. My lawyer said he should be able to plea it down to "unlawfull speedometer" because the tires are not original factory equipment and provide "reasonable doubt" that my speedo may not be 100 accurate to the court. I think it is worth the $250 to let him try - those points will kill all my insurance discounts.

You "deserved it" and can "admit when you make a mistake" and "am willing to pay for it" yet are hiring a lawyer to beat it? Hmmmm.......

Re: Tires suck

If I did not feel that I deserved to pay some sort of penalty for breaking the law I would simply fall back on other avenues to make the problem go away entirely. I feel instead that it is more fair to request a qualified third party - in this case my lawyer - to reach a compromise that will be a win - win for all involved. I will pay a sum of money to easy my guilty feelings - and the town will gain much needed revenue to pay for highway safety. I don't think the point system that the insurance companys use is fair - once your rates go up no matter what you do they will never return to the level prior the ticket. This is the way the system has become biased in the favor of big business. I do not agree with the fairness of this bias - so this is the avenue I have chosen to reach a compromise. Lets agree to file it under "it works for me".
