My gas mileage log.

Just putting it on here for some comparisons.

Tank 1: didn't check.

Tank 2: 12.7 mpg
All city driving with a lot of short trips. a/c on 100% of the time.

Tank 3: 12.4 mpg
All city driving with a lot of short trips. a/c on 100% of the time.
Did the DIY airbox mod with just above a 1/4 tank left. A little heavy on the gas after the mod.

Tank 4: 13.3 mpg
All city driving with a lot of short trips. a/c on 100%.

Tank 5: 13.7 mpg.
90% city 10% highway. a/c on 90 % of the time.

This is on an 06 4x2 le KC with BT.

Re: My gas mileage log.

man you better get that thing checked!

naw, its ok. you need 20k miles to breakin and get to your best mileage 18-20 on the highway.

if mileage is important, get bedcover, armada spoiler, 42 pounds of air in the tires, free flow intake, and synthetic lubericants.

Re: My gas mileage log.

On the last tank i was only guessing on how much gas i had to put in before i actually filled it up. It really came out to exactly 14 mpg. Right now i have 35 psi in the tires and was going to up the psi and see what happens. The thing that i am wondering is if the diy airbox mod made a difference. cause my mpg went up a little after i did it.

Re: My gas mileage log.

That mileage is bad. I have an 06 4x4 with BT and I have been keeping a log for quite some time now. I generally get no worse than 15 to 15.5 and lately with the cooler weather I seem to be getting 17+ pretty frequently. No performance mods of any type on the truck.

I did the airbox mod and K&N drop in filter. Helped about .5 mpg. I avg. 15 mpg most of the time mixed driving. Road trips at 60 mph I get close to 18 sometimes a bit more. anything around 80 mph and it drops back near 15.

The mileage i reported on the 06 was in line with what i got in the 04 in the same situations. The warm high humidity we have here makes a diefference I think. But i could be wrong.

Re: My gas mileage log.

It's easy to get used to bad MPG. I am on a training hop in Salt Lake City for two weeks and got a rental car (Pontiac Vibe) and this thing will go forever on a tank of gas. Makes you look at your Titan's milage in a different light. I know this is different types of rides, but it opened my eyes somewhat. My 05 CC BT OR avg's 15.5 in mixed conditions according to the Nav computer.

Re: My gas mileage log.

I'd be jumping for joy with that mileage. I got 11.7 the first 9k then it dropped to 10.2 for the next 12k now its back up around 11 at 23k. All mileage reported is 100% city on the same 20 mile commute. Granted this is a Armada w/bt but it irks me that I lost mileage during the break-in period. I've been going to a local service station for oil changes and I'm wondering if the 10w-30 they are feeding me is what the deal is? I read in the service manual you'll get better economy with 5w-30. I figured though that in Houston the time for the oil to heat up wouldn't be that great and the difference between 5w and 10w would be negligble. I'm going to make them use 5w from now on though. I actually didn't realize I was getting 10w until the last oil change since I assumed they were putting in the recommended oil.

My last 3 fillups. 13.734 (80% city), 15.06 (65% city), 12.743 (all city), 4700 miles so far.. I'm pretty much in line with you and I don't have the big tow. I find it amazing that many are getting 17 in mixed driving. I always run in 4 during city driving, just can't see using OD at 40-45 mph.

Re: My gas mileage log.

Why wouldn't you use all 5 gears while in the city? That would increase your milage some if you did use it. All of my driving is city and I get around 15-16 most of the time using OD. At 40-45 MPH I am in 5th gear and running about 1K RPMs. The truck just lopes along and is happy as can be at that speed.

For giggles:
Ave MPG: 16.559
Max MPG: 21.3
Min MPG: 12.7
Miles travelled: 17,740 (I actually have about 21,500 on the truck, but didn't keep records the first month due to it being a very busy time in my life, I travelled well over 3,000 miles that first month and never thought of keeping track of milage)

Edit: To be fair the sticker said 15 city and 19 Hwy, my averages when broken down between the two are VERY close to what Nissan advertised.

Yes it probably would raise it by 1-2 mpg, but being from the old school, I always felt that lugging the engine at low rpm's was never good on the motor. Maybe just a bad habit I picked up through the years.
