Drive by wire?

Hey, can someone explain to me what this means, and why does everyone want to get rid of it? What will this help?

Edit: Found some info here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drive_by_wire

How can this be disabled with the programmer, and what kind of gains could be possibly see? I think I remember the COBB people saying they will be able to disable this. What will the pros and cons to disabling this?

Re: Drive by wire?

are you asking why people want to get rid of drive by wire or why is everyone going to drive by wire?
if a vehicle already has DBW.. and if you disable it.. theres no cable that will open the throttle body. i dont see any advantages in getting ride of it.. it only helps out. granted the early stuff sucked and i drove a BMW and their's was bad.

Re: Drive by wire?

full throttle only at and after 4900 rpms, throttle reduced after 5200-5300rpms, only a small percentage of throttle until ~3200 rpms... when a programmer comes out it should give you what throttle you put in and fuel respectively.... i think very impressive gains can be expected...

Re: Drive by wire?

I believed the problems lies more in the tranny shift points than the throttle body. Scr38 did a test with a video camera showing the TB wide open at WOT, it does not close like some have though.

Re: Drive by wire?

On SCR's Armada he did a WOT run. Near shifts his TB would flutter a bit really quick but not really do enough to hurt his performance. BUT....and this is just a BUT...his Armada runs a 14.6....find a Titan without NX that can do that. So maybe for some off reason his is runing differently?????

Now I have looked at alot of data logged from Titans. And that data suggests that the TB closes after 5200 rpms. The v's to the TB becreases.

Now...how much will it affect performance on a Titan. Will with our cam if it infact does what some of us think, I think any gains will be pretty small.

The Titan is cammed for low end power and just isn't lobbed for that high of a RPM. Now if you could get that TCM to drop the shift points to about 5200 where the horrible decline beings you would stay in the titans power range which should greatly improve times.
