funny smell when and during backing up?

i get this funny smell inside my 04 CC SE when i am backing up? i dont know how to describe it but my girlfriend, and everyone else that rides in the car smells it too? i have no clue what it is? i dont think its antifreeze or oil cause i know what they smell like, i dunno if its exhaust or what? didnt know if it were the type of gas i have been putting in it or what? the truck runs fine, no funny sounds or leaking anything that i can tell? and i dont have any engine mods so it can be the mods, anyway any help would be great! oh yea should i take it in since i did buy the extended warrenty? i have 51,500 on the truck as of todaym and the nissan place here has taken care of it since i bought it at 35k miles?

It wouldn't hurt to have them at the dealer take a wiff. Sounds like you may have an exhaust leak, especially since you mainly smell it when backing up. Try going to Sonic and leaving the engine running with your windows down, that should give you a good smell also and maybe you could identify it more easily. (I just had a new muffler installed last week, and everytime I stop with the windows down I can smell the muffler burning off whatever dirt was on it)

IIRC a failed cat will emit smells, usualy sulpher like. This seems to have become far less prevalent compared to 20-30 years ago. Take it in for sure.

if it is a exhaust leak, will my warrenty cover it or will i just need to take it to a muffler place myself?

It should cover it. I beleive that would be considered under emissions and be covered for 60,000 miles. But are you sure when you twiat around in your seat to look back you letter squeezing a fart out?

If it's an exhaust leak, it's not the odor that you can detect that should be worrisome. It's the odorless, colorless, tasteless and deadly carbon monoxide accompanying the exhaust emissions that is of concern.

Sounds like a Cat problem or just a stinky azz Cat...Some Cats have a nasty smell if you get the wind blowing it right in your windows while backing up..Good luck.

yea i **** serveral times a day in my ride but this smell is alot funkier(is that even a word?)

but on a serious not, i've got 51K on her, and i'll be needing a oil change pretty soon, so i'll take it in and let then take a look at it! thanks guys for all the help! oh and for the laughs too!

Wait!! I got it!! When you back up you twist around to look out the back window right?? so the smell is just from your armpit when your looking out the back window and your nose is right next to it!!
