Help - Installing removable CB antennae

Looking for a good way to mount a CB antennae on my truck. I don't want a permanent installation as I don't need or want it on there all the time.

I can run the coax from the unit through the firewall or out the backside of the cab to gain access to the outside truck, but need some advice on where to go from there.

I'm at a loss on where to magnetic mount one of these, while still having a place to run/house the coaxial cable when I'm not using the CB. Basically, I can toss up a magnetic mount antennae and even run coax to it with no problem, but what do I do with the length of coax with the connector that plug into the antennae when the antennae is down?

FYI, I'll only be using it when offroading and I don't want to use the tried and true "run the coax out a cracked window" routine.

Any ideas?

Regards,

John

Re: Help - Installing removable CB antennae

I have a Wilson 1000 magnetic base mount placed a few inches forward of my 3rd brake light sitting on a clear plastic protector film. It has a screw on cap so when the antenna and load coil are not mounted it's covered / sealed. Just to the rear of that on top of the 3rd light I have a 6" tall XM stalk antenna.

The coax and XM wires go through the opening for the 3rd brake light.

Setup seems to work reasonably well. Probably not the greatest place for the CB but as I said - good nuf.

Re: Help - Installing removable CB antennae

That sounds ideal for me. What I'm really wrestling with is how and where to land the coax on the outside of the truck. How did you feed it up and land it at the third break light location. Any pics or perhaps a description of how you got the coax up there?

Ideally, I'd have the ability to just plop the magnetic mount antennae up on the roof right about where you have it when I need to use the CB. The challenge is wiring it into the coax. Do you have like a female connector that just sits up there on top of the truck at the break light location? How did you rig this up?

Thanks for the input!!!!!

Regards,

John
