I am thinking that for less than 2 gs it should be spliced & re-routed in flexible armored conduit. 2gs to get back to a bad situation doesn't seem right.
How can an off road truck have exposed wiring like this. This whole thing is gonna cost me 2 g's and I'm pissed. The wires could have been easily routed inside the channel or on top of it.
Unfortunately, these are not "off road" trucks. Not many of us would buy this truck if it was truly an off road truck because it wouldn't be very practical. That's why everyone is doing mods.
I feel your pain though regarding the cost of repairs. 2G's is high. Work with your dealer and shop around at other dealers for prices on parts. They have some flexibility. It's not a set cost on parts. They may be able to save you a couple of hundred. Also, I'm not sure it matters where the wiring harness was routed. Don't forget there are plenty of other pieces on the truck that can be damaged. There are brake lines under the truck that are exposed, differential covers that can be punctured by rocks, etc. The entire bottom of this truck would need to have a solid protective plate under it to make it accident proof underneath. Don't forget we don't even have puncture proof tires. It would suck to change a tire in rough terrain.
In comparison, if you go look at a Ford FX4, peek under the front bumper. You will see an exposed radiator cooler. It is pretty small but it is in a silly place because it is not protected at all. Any road debris on asphalt can easily bust a hole in it. Titan skid plates cover all the way to the bumper. Ford's don't and they look like dirt scoops. That radiator cooler is right inbetween the bumper and their skid plate. It's a bad design as well.
Bottom line, these are not tanks, they are street trucks although I hope this never happens to me. It can happen with any piece of debris, even on the pavement.
This might be something to look into? its a steel reinforced sheathing- that zips over wire bundles!

This is this real bad guys. If you look inside the rear tire well you would also see the harness snaking through. How can an off road truck have exposed wiring like this. This whole thing is gonna cost me 2 g's and I'm pissed. The wires could have been easily routed inside the channel or on top of it.
One option that I thought is to get some black garden hose and slit it in the middle and cut it in sections and slip it over the wire for better protection but this realy sucks. I have lost confidence in this truck!!!
I can't speak about GM, but the Ford and Dodge trucks harness runs the same way near the rear wheelwell. Personally, I think they harness should run THROUGH the frame. Maybe there's a wat to lodge a formal complaint to let Nissan know this is a problem? Most pf us don't offroad with our truck so we probably will never have that problem but a truck designed for offroad use?.....shouldn't have such issues.

I recently bought new fender liners to replace the ones I destroyed, and there is a superceeded part number for the passenger side. They have added a piece of sheet metal behind the fender liner to give the connector more protection... I haven't installed the new ones yet, but I'm curious to see how everything lines up.

I just bought another Titan last week, and it's a 4X4. Anyway, I put it on a rack and one of the first things I noticed was this wiring harness. Kinda bothers me that it's exposed like this. Maybee I will fabricate something to protect it. Check out the pics. Sorry to hear of your incident.
I went to see some mud races in Louisiana and could see some spray foam under the vehicle. After looking closer I could see the foam was sprayed over the harness to protect it. I asked the driver and he said he wraps the wires with saran wrap plastic and then sprays the foam all around the wires. The wire supports hold everything in place and if you need to remove the insulation to work on the wires, the plastic stops it from sticking to the wires. Those guys run through some real bad stuff so I guess they need to know how to improvise.

my story had a somewhat of a happy ending. The harness was fixed by the dealer and between my car insurance and dealer cooperation it ended up costing me around 300 bucks or so to get it fixed up with a new harness. There is something funny about the design because I recently rolled over another frigging branch and it rapped around the tire and got stock in the tire well. It scared the sheet outa me. The damn truck is like a lawnmore picks up all the crap in the road.I have not fix the exposed wire yet but will come up with something and in the mean time if I see a stick on the dirt road I turn around and go home.
