I have a 2006. No problems at all with almost 5000 miles coming up. This truck rocks compared to the 2005 Ford Ranger XLT and 99 Chevrolet 2500 that I got rid of to get this one truck.
One of my buddies drives a 2006 also. His only problems are self induced, as he tends to hit things with it. He has 16000 miles and zero problems to report.
Another friend has a 2004 and the only issue his truck had was the front brakes, which the dealer took care of. He has almost 30,000 miles on it now. It eats tires, because he likes to light 'em up.
I don't think they will get it right untill they fix all the rattles, cange to a different differential design and fix the damn AC (so it actualy turns off when the light goes out) I know for sure on 04-05 the AC does not REALLY shut off after you have turned on max AC or the defroster...It's on untill you shut the truck off! Even though the light goes out the compressor is still running. I told my dealer it was defective and he said they are supposed to be like that and they cannot ix it.
Not sure if the AC issue exists on the 06, but I know it is eating my gas mileage especialy on those 4-8 hour trips (And no I don't feel like pulling over to shut the truck off and on everytime I turn the defroster on.)

On most of the newer cars and trucks, the compressor runs all the time. My 04 KC's blower ran constantly...bringing in air...needed or not. My 05 CC's blower didn't run until you turned the knob. Same with the '06 CC.
The rear end is a weakness with these trucks. Why Nissan would go with a 1940's design (your neighbors 56 T-Bird, 54 Merc, or any post 1949 Studebaker has a similar rear end) must have been a cost cutting measure.
When originally designed, it was fine...but does not hold up well under modern HP and torque.
I would suggest a late production 06 or a 07 to get the best.

Do me a favor. Next time you're driving down the road at 55 mph to 65 mph take a look a your tachometer and note the rpm. Then switch on your AC at maximum coolling power. I'm thinking there won't be hardly any increase in rpm. My tach increases maybe 25 rpm if that. Gas mileage, on my Titan anyway, is barely affected by ac usage.
Differential is great so far. I have the locker from the 1st month it came out, part of the off road pkg. and I treat it accordingly, while following the 2004 owner's manual' breakin and operating sugestions.
Would I buy a 2004? If you could purchase a brand new 2004, 2005, 2006, or 2007 from the dealer with full warranty - any of the years especially if they would knock off $5-7K off the price for each year back, ya ... in a second.
Wouldn't buy used though, without a 100K gold warranty.
Not to start a bashing thing here as my last truck was a Ford but when did they get it right? edited for clarity 426 am...I mean that all vehicles have problems
I'm going to chime in here on this one. I own an '04 4x4 BG CC. It had 26 miles on it when I bought it. It now has over 52000. The only major problem I've had was the break judder. Dealer turned the rotors once and ordered the new brakes. The second they came in they installed them for me. Ever since I haven't had a problem with them at all. My truck really doesn't rattle either. I do listen to the radio so I wouldn't hear a little rattle anyway. As far as the AC thing I haven't really checked in on that but I do use the defrost and max AC a lot and I haven't noticed anything as far as it effecting gas milage. All I know is that I have a great truck and I would buy again. Only thing I wish I had on the '04 is the back glas sliding down automatcially. Other than that my TITAN Rocks...... Just my .02 ok well maybe a little more than that but you get the picture....
yes the rear sliding window is very nice. I did get the rare oportunity of buying a 2005 new as my sig says and I love driving it. In fact my work truck is a E350 ford box truck and I feel cramped in it now that I own the titan. My dad has a 03 F150 and it is ok but doesn't even shake a stick at the Titan. My a/c turns off fine, if you don't want the compressor to run turn it to off and open the windows.

I have to chime in here also, I am new to the forum but have been surfing it since I purchased my Titan in 04'. I have a 2004 SE CC 4X4 with Big Tow and other than the brake judder I too have not had any major problems and I also have a little over 52k on my truck. Actually I used to tow a 6,000lb boat every weekend in the summer 500 miles round trip and the truck never complained. I have had every make pickup(other than Toyota) and I have to say this one is either on a par or better than the domestics. Good luck with your decision but you do not have to worry about what year they got it right since the truck has been great from the get go and will only get better.
