Specialty tags and dealers

I can't believe my dealer. They called my house last night to tell me that my tags were in for my truck (now 3 weeks old). I called them back today to tell them that I have FD tags and transferred them from my old car. They were quick to say they made a mistake and will correct it but... Has anyone else had a problem like this before? Im just concerned that if I were to get pulled over (about to go over 1200 miles on the truck) before I get my new registration I may be in a pickle.

Re: Specialty tags and dealers

should have gotten a temp one when you bought the truck. I wouldn't be to worried about it.

not when you transfer tags from one vehicle to another. They are still messed up but it is between the DMV and the dealer at the moment.

Re: Specialty tags and dealers

The same thing happened to me. I bought my Titan used and they registered it with the plates that were on there and not my personal plates. I went up there and they gave me another temp tag and said my registration sticker will come in the mail as soon as they get it.

Should be ok as long as they give you a temp tag that is not expired.

Im confused. If you transfered plates from another vehicle, how'd you drive the new truck home? Shouldn't you have had the plate on the new truck?

OK, if you have specialty tags ie T1TAN or in my case Fire department tags you can transfer them from a car to a truck or vice virsa, normally truck tags are truck tags and car tags are car tags not interchangable. We took the tags right off the maxima and put them on the titan then the dealer did the paperwork to have them transferred to the truck (and screwed it up). No use of paper temp tags needed.

Ahh ok. We don't have car and truck plates here in NY. Here you just swap plates and the dealer does the paperwork...done.

Re: Specialty tags and dealers

i'm pretty leery of leaving that stuff up to the dealer. they took almost 11weeks to get me the tags for the titan!! i had to pay for another temp tag to cover the last lil' bit. idiota! that reminds me, they also still owe me about $150 for overcharging me on the sales tax (i bought in a diff. state), even though i specifically told them the correct amount, they still managed to screw it up...
in retrospect, maybe its because i bought from a FERD dealer!!
