Big Tow tranny temp gauge

I know you get a transmission temperature gauge with the Big Tow package and it is in the instrument cluster, right side.

My question is on Titans without Big Tow can I add that gauge to my instrument cluster or is the tranny temp gauge part of a special cluster for Big Tow only?

I have a 2005 LE CC.

Re: Big Tow tranny temp gauge

You can install aftermarket gauge like I did. Do a search.

I don't want an aftermarket gauge. I have searched for the factory temp gauge install and came up with nothing.

So the cluster has different part numbers, one for non-BT and another for BT?

I come from the GM world and their instrument clusters had individual gauges that could be replaced separately.

I can't say for sure but my guess would be that they do have different part numbers because you can't add the guage to the cluster without replacing the entire cluster. It's simple...one has the guage, the other doesn't. Their designed differently. Can anyone post a pic maybe of the cluster with the guage (I suck at pics here...lol) and another post a pic w/o the guage? Maybe that will help.

It might be do-able if the wiring harness/printed circuit (if Titan uses one) is the same. One could cut out the sealed opening...I know that on Ford clusters...the circuit boards are different, depending on what package you have.

Re: Big Tow tranny temp gauge

FWIW, any titan with a factory tow package, not just Big Tow, has the tranny temp guage. At least my non big tow XE does. Try finding another cluster at a boneyard.
Cheers, Lee S.

Re: Big Tow tranny temp gauge

This was discussed a while back. Although the PC boards for the gauges are identical, you can't buy the gauge itself as an individual part to install. You have to buy the whole BT instrument cluster (about $300 if I recall). Like someone said, all depends on what it's worth to you.

$300 for the BT cluster sounds reasonable for what it is. Especially from a dealership. Now, are there sensors required as well or does the engine computer already have the transmission tempature information?

You either have the tow package or you don't. There is only one tow package. If you have the tranny temp guage, then you have the tow package. In 2004 they called it the BIG TOW pkg. Now it's just called TOW PKG. Same exact package.

So, you're saying I have the Big Tow package WITHOUT the "big tow" mirrors....factory?
Cool trick .

Exactly correct. The "Big" tow mirrors are not available on your XE. It's the only part of the tow package XEs don't get. You have everything else though.

Re: Big Tow tranny temp gauge

All Titan use the same gaugee layout, non BT have that part cover up. If you take the gauge out and cut the cover off where the tranny gauge is you will see the tranny temp gauge minus the needle, not sure if you can get a needle, pop it on and it will work or not.

That's very interesting. So if all the sending units and computer mumbo jumbo was in the truck (I'd be willing to bet it has everything already), all that would needed is the needle, and to cut the hole that covers the guage? Surely it can't be that easy.
