Crack Kills

My windshield now has a 9 inch crack up the center, just wanted to know if people had went through nissan to get it replace or just a local windshield guy. Also has there been any problems with the replacement do they use an OEM glass?

Thanks

Re: Crack Kills

If you have comprehensive insurance, there should be little or no out of pocket $$$. I would use the dealer if you can. the other guys do a good job, but the gaskets they use don't quite fit correctly.

Re: Crack Kills

I had mine replaced for around $300 at a local place. Looks great don't leak.

I was thinking of using the dealer but I think they subcontract the work out to the 30 minute guys and charge me dealership prices

Does the glass have the black dots (center sunshade) in the center?

Re: Crack Kills

If you can show that it is a stress crack, they will replace it under warranty. If it has the slightest nick or chip in it, they will charge you for the replacement.

I had mine replaced under warranty due to a crack at the top driver side. They did have a glass guy come out and replace it. They did as near perfect of a job as is humanly possible. Haven't had a problem since.

happens to more cars than you would think. My cherokee has 3 windshields and the s-10 I had went through 2 or 3. IT's just alot of glass and if it gets stressed or chipped in the right way it will crack.

Re: Crack Kills

You can have it replaced anywhere and request an OEM windshield. I've done this twice before without any problems.

I think mine was hit by a meteor, whatever it was it hit hard made a big chip then in 5 minutes it was 3" and within 3 hours it was 9". I was on the freeway so there was alot of wind pressure.

Yes, it's safe.
There is a sheet of clear laminate between the glass. More than likely the crack is outside only.

Re: Crack Kills

A large crack in a windshield is unsafe.
