Tell her all an SUV is a 4-wheel drive mini van. If she doesn't need 4-wheel drive then get her a mini van. If you're going with an SUV go with the Armada!
What's your budget? I like the MDX. It was a little spendy so we got the Honda Pilot and it has been excellent. My previous vehicle was a 1st gen Dodge Durango and it was nice to drive. Started to develop the little creaks and squeaks after 4 years. If you think Titans get bad mileage, my 360ci Durango got 10mpg. My dad has a 96 Pathfinder. Still runs strong. His A/C blows colder air than my Titan. There are a lot of good vehicles out there. Never been a Toyota person. I'm a little bias towards Honda/Acura and Nissan/Infiniti. Test drove the Volvo and it's really nice. A friend owns a Toureg and that's definitely a nice vehicle if you like german vehicles. Sorry for the rambling. My wife had us driving almost everything when we were looking so I kinda feel like a "Holiday Inn Express" expert on the subject.
If money is not an issue, my wife's dream suv is the Range Rover HSE Supercharged in Orange. Now that's a machine, way out of our budget. Other nice ones on a better budget are the Xterra, Pilot, 4Runner, X5(all in different price ranges). Good luck finding one, I'd stay away from the domestics, that's just me though from my previous experiences.

The LR3 Range Rover is also extremely well equipped. And I'll ditto the BMW X5's.
A veteran is someone who, at one point in his life wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America' for an amount of 'up to and including my life.' That is Honor, and there are way too many people in this country who no longer understand that...

money is an issue, the Honda pilot is at the top of her list.
What you intend to do with the vehicle has such a huge influence on what model you should be looking at. If good reliable transportation with a solid AWD drivetrain and a fair degree of comfort/luxury is what you are looking for, the Pilot could be a perfect solution. If however you are looking for something with serious 4WD, a granny gear and more basic/rugged accomodations you might consider the Nissan Xterra. And then, for something completely different, you could also consider a Subaru Outback. No it is not the conventional SUV, but fuel economy is good, interior space is good, and I swear, with good tires that Subaru AWD system will allow it to drive up a wall.

BAM, buy the pilot, she'll love you for it. I bought my wife one a '05 and its front wheel drive however the rear could be engaged if needed. Your wife has good taste.
