better gas milage

okay so i used ot get around 270 to 285 on a tank of gas all summer long
and recently ive been getting around 310 to 330 on a tank of gas.

im just curious if a drop in temperture can do this and make that big of a difference or if its the whole summer gas vs. winter gas ....

i havnt changed my driving habits or anything .... has anyone else noticed better gas milage recently ... oh yeah jsut some fact i live in san antonio texas .. so its still a little warm on some days ... like one day it can be 95 or so and the very next morning its in the upper 40's with a high of 75 .....

sorry if this is just a totaly stupid thread but i had to ask

Probably just a coinky-dink. Or your math is off now...or was off originally.

Re: better gas milage

I've been getting much worse (2-3 mpg) since they switched to the winter grade.

lol... cool .. but there is no math involved in viewing the trip milage when your tank is on empty ... i fill up right around 22 to 23 gallons all the time ...(when i was getting around 270-285... and now while im getting 310 -330)

anyone else?

Re: better gas milage

I seriously thought winter gas was easier on mileage (if it was really noticeable) than summer gas. Maybe I'm hitting the crack pipe too much, but that's what I thought anyway. And intuitively, I'd think the cold weather would help. Again, if it was really noticeable.

LOL I don't know why I thought that. I do even seem to remember a thread on here a while back about summer/winter gas and mileage. Jeez, I dunno. I've slept once or twice since then!

Re: better gas milage

well, ive never heard of "winter" gas or "summer" gas, but keep in mind that since its colder, your going to use your heater, rather than your a/c. And since your a/c uses more gas, that will save you gas, which in turn will get you more miles pre tank.

hmm good point .. but while i havnt been using my heater .. its been nice enough to roll wiht no ac or heater .. and even with the windows down

so maybe the cold weather plus winter gas plus no a/c are contributing to the better gas milage

Re: better gas milage

Here's an article about Winter gas. Pretty interesting.

http://zhome.com/ZCMnL/PICS/winterGas/winterGas.html

And the no A/C but heater instead should definitely make a difference.

Right, but unless you put in the EXACT amount each time you tested your mileage, and then it actually run out of gas, there can be a big difference. Remember that our guages are strange. They go down faster from full to 3/4 than from 3/4 to 1/2 and so on. Ahh hell, I've been wrong before ya know!....lol. Just tryin' to help.

Re: better gas milage

I'm with you HVT. I think the guages are a little screwy. Besides the fact that sometimes I can put almost another gallon in the tank sometimes after it's cut off automatically.

Basically it's like this: I put gas in the thing when I need to. Swipe the card, fill 'er up and go until I need to fill 'er up again. I reset the tripmeters, but I'm not really sure why. I'm not figuring my mileage at all anymore. I'll do it when I tow this next time, but that's more for curiousity than concern.
