Wearing Steering wheel leather

Anybody have problems with the leather on the steering wheel? Mine is getting really worn and looks like its almost like the top layer is peeling off right where I hold the wheel, I know steering wheels wear, but at 14K it seems a little premature.

Re: Wearing Steering wheel leather

It's basically from the acid in your skin. I've had this problem with my last truck that I had for 11 years. It did take about 6 years before it started to look shabby though. At 14K, that DOES seem a little early for this problem. Too late now, but I use leather conditioner on mine and wipe it down everytime I clean the inside of the truck. Keeps it a little longer.

Re: Wearing Steering wheel leather

Thanks, I will put some on at least to keep it from getting worse, and put some on the shifter leather too. Next time I take it to the dealer I'll ask them about it.

u should asked 2K miles ago...they would replaced

Mine happened round 13K miles as well...I bought a "real genuine leather" cover to just put on top of it... I think it looks way better then my stock wheel all peeling..

Re: Wearing Steering wheel leather

I have had the same problem on my 05' and mine is out of warranty.

Does anyone know of a good reasonably priced fix?

1. Buy another stock wheel from dealer (is the leather any better on the 06 or 07)? Anyone know what the cost of that would be?

2. Aftermarket leather, Katskins? maybe? How much is that and how good does it look? Does it look like a cover or does it look like a leather steering wheel? I dont want it to look cheap.

Any ideas?

Mine has very slight wear on it and the dealer said that it would get regected (spelling) if they tried to turn it in under warranty. But if yours is peeling they should do it under warranty with no problems.

I think it would be very expensive, it comes as an assembly with the air bag and everything. I put a cheap autozone cover on mine and it works fine.

Re: Wearing Steering wheel leather

BigA have it replaced. I had mine replaced at 27K. The steering they put on is or it feels like ''real'' leather instead of plastic leather wheel that was on there.
