Diff Cover

Did all of the 04 titans come with the steel diff cover? Bought my 04 titan used and it has the fined aluminum cover. When did they switch from steel to aluminum?

Re: Diff Cover

The change came in the early 2005 trucks. My truck was built in Jan. 05. I passed on a November 04 built truck because it had the steel cover and no synthetic fluid in there.
Your truck may have been owned by an informed guy and he changed it himself.

Re: Diff Cover

A Titan built in Nov. of 04 is an 05 model. My 05 was built in Oct. of 04 and had the steel diff. cover. When I bought the truck in Dec. of 04, part of the deal was that they would put the finned cover on.
Early Build 05's ( actually built in 04), had the steel cover.

Re: Diff Cover

i have the steel cover and i saw some rust on it the other day....

where can I get the finned al. cover?

I can change it myself at my buddy's shop.

Just need some info on replacing it and the fluid capacity etc.

hey cas, i'm looking to do the same thing. I tried courtesy parts, but they don't offer a finned cover to '04's.

couple companies have them.. Stillen for one. Do a search on here. There is about 3 or 4 that make em.

Titanss like clint said.. either the previous owner put the new cover on or he got a new rear diff...

Re: Diff Cover

I'm pretty much determined to get a new rear end before my warranty is up...so with that in mind. Who cares, they say you get the new cover then.

hard to say when it will go if it even does... I know the stillen one is bigger than the finned Nissan factory one. I really like the black power coated one that stillen has. Think changing the fluid is something you dont have to do to often.

Re: Diff Cover

Any diff cover for a Dana 44 will work. Everyone who has ever made covers has done a 44. Larger capacity, magnets, sightglass, are all available thru different mfgs. Check your offroad shops or online sellers.

Re: Diff Cover

Yes, but it will not increase capacity or cooling.
Fins will increase cooling, so are recommended. I've only seen finned covers in aluminum, which will increase cooling also.
Fins to the left. Fins to the right...
