Finally Got Smart!
In recent years I've been the proud owner of two Titans...an '05 and an '06. Both were XE models and both were two-wheel drive. At the time, I was living in South Carolina, helping to build a retirement home for my wife and I, and given the lack of snow, I didn't feel 4WD was a necessity. Last spring, I returned back north to Delaware where we will be spending most of our time until my wife retires and we move to Myrtle Beach in a little over 2 years.
With the change in climate, and wanting a 4WD truck, I got a bad case of the "stupids" this past summer and traded the Titan in on an '06 Toyota Tundra/Quad Cab/SR5/ 4WD. Not a bad truck, but in my opinion, it's certainly no Titan, and I was sorry within two weeks of having purchased it. I'm not meaning to "flame" Toyota (we own a Solara covertible which we enjoy very much), but the Tundra just never felt like a "real" truck to me. It has good fit and finish, would probably be very reliable, and will also probably hold its resale value very well.
But, a couple of significant differences were immediately evident to me. For one, the Titan truly feels like a full-sized truck. The Tundra, being 7/8 size, never did. The Titan has WAY MORE motor than the Tundra. There is just no comparison. I also appreciated such features as the "tow mode" available on the Titan, an option which is not to be found on the Tundra.
Long story short....Yesterday I went to our local Nissan dealer an ordered a new, '07 SE Titan. I ordered it instead of buying it from stock because I wanted a combination of options which are not generally seen on most new Titans. For example, I wanted the SE preferred package with the split bench seat. This seat comes standard on the XE (although not powered), and I much prefer it over the standard bucket seats on the SE and LE editions. I lust over the chome wheels available on the '07 Texas Titan package, so that combination of options was added to the order. My wife rolled and totalled an SUV we owned about 3 years ago, so side curtain air bags were also added to the list. And finally, the "Big Tow" option found it's way to the build order as well. The color? Granite.
The result? In approximately 8 weeks, I will be the proud owner of a new Titan, pretty much outfitted the way I wish. The list of after-market options is fairly short: PRG 2" front leveling kit, Extang tonneau cover, and front window tint will pretty much do it.
It's great to be back in the Titan community again.
PS: My signature shows the '06 Titan which I formally owned, and will be replaced with an up-to-date photo and list of options when it arrives.
