Well, after over two years of waiting we finally have rock sliders for our Titans. If you remember, I had a set custom made about 6 months ago. Well, they didn't turn out so well. Not strong enough.
Next stop was Demello Offroad in Corona, not far from my home. Took my truck by and they made up a custom set. Mounted to the frame at five points and welded on for extra strength. These guys specialize in rock sliders and other custom work including winch bumpers, etc., geared mainly for Toyota's. They know what they're doing and have made literally hundreds of rock sliders.
If you ring them up, ask for Jason the owner. Nice guy and a true professional. The Titan is a HEAVY rig, so these are made extra sturdy. He's selling them for $650, though if one of you want to arrange a group buy, he's ready to deal.
Pics are attached with more to follow in next e-mail.
Regards,
John

How strong are these rock sliders? Check out the pics below and decide for yourself. Truck is totally lifted off the ground ready to change tires or to free yourself when stuck offroading.
With their strength, they'll easily fend off boulders, tree stumps and anything else that otherwise would have caved in your rocker panels and doors.

John

Not at the moment, but I can take some if you're interested. They use 1/4" thick angle brackets as attachment points to the frame, and the heavy duty square tubing is welded to these and gusseted. The whole shebang is then sent off for a non-skid powder coating. It is then either bolted or welded to the frame at five points. Your choice. In one of the pics you can see the five square beams that extend back to the frame.
I had mine welded for extra strength. Lifted the whole side of the truck up off the ground. Wheels were spinning in the air and the thing never even flexed.
Regards,
John

You'd have to call Jason for exact info, but if you go to their website, they typically make their sliders out of 1.75" or 2" tubing with a .120" wall thickness. Very heavy stuff. The square tubing on mine is 2" and the round is either 1.75" or 2". I can't remember which at the moment and it's too dark outside to go check.
The square tubing is used in closer to the frame for extra strength. Takes longer to fab up and is more expensive but stronger. The round tube is the furthest from the frame and doubles as a step rail. It is welded to the square tube at the ends and at four places along the length with 2" long connector tubes.
Let's put it this way. I lifted one whole side of my truck completely off the ground and they never groaned, flexed, or moved. Nice thing about these guys, is they're not a fab shop that is trying to make sliders for the first time. They specialize in making these for Tacoma's, Tundra's, Frontier, and now the FJ and Titan. They've made and sold hundreds of them.
Check out their custom Tacoma Pre-Runner on their website. They have it at their office and it's totally built.
Regards,
John

Dude I was just flipping through the new Off Road the other day and had seen a set of Demello sliders on a Titan, I kept meaning to Google them and now this! Yes! I think I know what I'm gonna ask for for Christmas, thanks for the info John

Hey John, I have a bit of experience off road and with a HiLift. If that is your truck and you continue to use the jack you may want to open your door . I know that place looks pretty tame but not always the situation. A little slip of the base and you have damage to your door. Just my .02
Yeah, it is very possible for a high lift to slip and slam forward regardless of where it is grabbing on to. One time I saw a guy demonstrating why you should always hold onto the handle and be out of the way when lowering a load. He let go of the handle and if jacked itself down in about 2 seconds flat and since he had forgotton the clip holding the handle in, it flew up over the top of his Jeep and landed about 20 feet away on the other side. Fortunately, it missed hitting anything.
In this instance the tongue of the high lift is jammed against the inside tube helping to prevent it from moving forward under load. Still, it aint a sure thing and it most definitely could slip.
I've seen guys open their doors and still others put carpet remnants in between the high lift and the side of their truck in case it comes forward. In the field, I'd do something similiar, but at the end of the day if the door get's a dent, that's what insurance is for, or I may just leave it. Both sides are covered with pin striping anyway, so I don't much care.
Regards,
John

These look GREAT !! I've been looking for a place that makes sliders that are as functional and good-looking as the Shrockworks sliders I had on my previous Xterra. These definitely fot that description ! Thanks for posting the shop info. Any chance you could post up a few additional pics when you have time ?
Thanks again, Steve C.

Was that $650 installed? I would be interested if the price is right. My buddy just had a set put on his Taco over the weekend. Pretty sweet. Then all I need is a front tube replacement bumper and my lift.
