My wife has a 05 Murano that I drive once in a while...the trans works great...but it's a weird sensation....looking at the shifter...what gear am I in?
If you're old enough a CVT may remind you of the old Buick Dynaflow...different design...same idea.

What makes a CVT equipped vehicle so boring to drive? I've never driven one before so I don't know what they feel like.
From what I've read, they say the rpms are always at the max tq peak for the most efficient power when driving around. Does this mean that the engine is always at the same rpm no matter how fast you're going?[/quote]
no the engine still changes rpm. have you ever ridden a automatic atv? you mash the throttle and it spools up but there is a lag from engine rpm to movement. it feels like the motor is going to grenade itself because when you are at WOT the engine is at max rpm but the CVT (continuously variable transmission) is always catching up. its like a bad case of turbo lag ,just all the time.

ha ha if its made before 84 its older then me.... but i would be all for an MDS type system. dodge uses it and so does gm, from what i hear it works really well.
Not to get too far off topic, but as far as CVT transmissions go, their best application seems to be in front wheel drive vehicles. My wife and I did a comparision yesterday of the 07 Camery and the 07 CVT Altima. While the CVT might seem boring to drive, the one thing I did appreciate the lack of front end lifting and diving of the Camry where the Altima's CVT was very mannerly. In fact, for a commuting and errand car, we are seriously considering the CVT Altima.
CVT can keep the engine in maximum torque range for towing, but I wonder what is going to be required to build a transmission capable of handling this power and torque range? I doubt we will see it in the truck anytime in the near future.

LOL!!! Yeah no way in Hades a CVT could reliably handle 5K lbs and 400LB ft of tq. Well at least in current fashion. They are decent for small fairly light weight cars and Scooters.
Now if we want to talk hybrid, how about 4 50 hp motors, one on each wheel, and keep the current engine config. Now that would be awsome. But for now I like my Dino juice run truck.
