Now that I have your attention, one of the senior tech's. told me that the new Titan will probably sporting the new CVT transmission, which means that there is no gears whatsoever, just a single belt driven tranny, just like the new Maxima, and that the diesel engine is probably going to be a Navistar diesel engine. (Sorry for the 2008 sighting)
i dont think that will be fun at all.... its kinda disapointing if true
i dont know about you all but i have driven vehicles with CVT and its so boring. and not to mention it takes away the rugged "truck" feeling. im no mechanic but you would think that it would make the payload/tow capacity much less....
My sources are:
early 2008: Nissan will release a redesigned 2009 model Titan, period.
early 2008: Nissan will release a "heavier" comercial 2009 model Titan that "will require" a diesel engine. Who will make such engine? It has been designed by Nissan teams.
The HD Titan that will go head to head with the Chevy 2500 and F-250 "only", will not come out in the same year. When will it come out? As a 2010 model, period. No further sources there on that part.
Also,
Nissan "is planing" a powerfull Titan. What it means by "powerfull"? Nismo, and plenty other aftermarket racing technology.
And finally,
A V6 model is "not" a requirement "right now", Nissan is currently weighting realeasing such option.

One of the main tech's in the Clovis CA. Nissan dealer. He had just came back from a "big meeting" as he stated from the Los Angeles area, I also brought to him the main strong point of the Titan's 5 speed automatic tranny, i mentioned to him how would towing be affected, he just switched my question around and said he was kind of busy and had to finish up some work . If they do switch it I hope its for the better.

saw the 2008 titan
i saw the 2008 titan.. i actually have put my hands on it, cranked it up and everything, but drive it. but from what i saw the upgrades are the best i've seen on any other truck out there.it has bigger wheels, better interior quality, nicer dash, new grill, fender molding.. if your thinking about trading i would wait until it comes out if u can
And consider the cost factor...millions to design and build a CVT for a rwd truck...and why...what's wrong with the 5 speed auto, that everyone praises?

Total BS!
do you know someone that works at NISSAN? if so i am sure they cant tell you much but have you heard anything exciting?

Probably the least informed member of dealerships, outside of lot personal are mechanics/technicians.....and what big meeting was held here in LA?
Must have been at a hotel, as Nissan no longer has a HQ in Gardena.
A belt driven tranny on a truck that can tow up to 9500lbs? Hmmm, I don't know about that.lol!
Now, a hybrid Titan sounds like a good idea. Same 317hp engine and 5sp tranny but with a 100hp electrical motor attached to it.
Since Nissan just upgraded the hp/tq on the '07's, I don't think the '08's will have any power upgrades. Just a slight redesign of the front grill/headlight/lower bumper and perhaps new wheels/emblems. The interior will have some minor revisions as well, but that's about it most likely.
titan814,
What makes a CVT equipped vehicle so boring to drive? I've never driven one before so I don't know what they feel like.
From what I've read, they say the rpms are always at the max tq peak for the most efficient power when driving around. Does this mean that the engine is always at the same rpm no matter how fast you're going?

well i am glad a "reliable" source smells BS. the minute i hear a silver 08 TITAN CC LONG BED is on a truck ill be waiting for it at my dealer. i am so excited for more power and a bigger truck. it would put a severe kink in my decision to purchase another TITAN if it came with a CVT tranny. i just dont think its a smart decision to change one of the titans strong points...
Seriously, I have not been talking to anyone about this. All I did was spend a couple hours on google searching using diffrent words as "nissan diesel", "titan diesel", "nissan heavy duty", "nissan titan international diesel". You end up with an enormous amount of information, and all you have to do is read the latest (after July 06), and piece them together; you'll end up with a couple conclusions, and all you have to do is use some common sense (comparing to current sales, etc...). You'll be able to tell "the direction" of Nissan's plans. BTW, no one, "NO ONE" knows exactly what is going on, except the ones that are on top of the food chain. I even doubt most NIssan workers at the plant even know what's going on. These things are like area 51 sometimes, they never want to leak information that will jeopardize their plans.
I can guarantee you that if you need some kind of "security clearance" to work on the Nissan's main chain, no one will know what will happen until they are "allowed" to leak info.
So unless you hear from a Nissan Titan builder, meaning, a person that works building Titans; don't believe it. Some of these Nissan "managers" do the same thing we do: internet.
