Exclamation Chip Keys

I was told the titan has a computer chip in the rubber head of the ingition key that the ecm has to read so the truck will start. Instead of paying $75+ for a copy of the chip key i had a local locksmith cut me a copy on a $2 generic blank just to open my doors only. I have news my 04 XE will start & drive like normal with the $2 generic key! So try this before you spend $75+ to have a spare key made. Here is the key specs--Brand ILCO--No. left side X237--No. right side DA34.

Re: Chip Keys

04 XE's do not come with chip keys. In fact, I don't think any XE's come with them.

Thanks for the info though.

Your dealer was mistaken. The vehihicle immobilizer system, which is what you're talking about , was only available on XEs if they had the PR (XE prefered package). That was not available at all XEs, only on the Crew Cab models.

King Cabs can get it to as long as its SE or LE. Mine has the Vehicle immobilizer system.

Re: Chip Keys

My 06 XE CC Pref Pkg gives electric door locks, windows and security/remotes. I'm thrilled with my XE CC Pref Pkg items. Not to mention that CC electric rear window too!

Same here! My 06 LE CC has all the stuff, and I still shock people when they trash my huge window wondering how I slide it open. I say watch and I push the button LOL. Damn Dodge Owners. (alot of my co-workers drive them 1500's)

Re: Chip Keys

Thanks for all the feed back! The point of this post is try the $2 key before you spend $75 for one with the chip. So i take it all the XE KC owners can get off cheap on duplicate keys? You learn something new every day.

Correct. ALL Titans have the immobilizer system EXCEPT for the XE KCs, and XE CCs W/O the PR package.

I guess that's one way to think of it...Also easier for someone to steal your truck if you can get a cheap $2 key made!

Kinda the point of the forum is to discuss issues which we did hear...Thanks for posting it, but everyone hear got together to clarify why you don't have this. This would be a security issue if our Titans that are equipped with the immobilizer system were able to get a key that worked on the ignition...

Some people who have older versions of remote start kits have to tape a key behind their dash near the ignition in order to get their remote start to work.

Very true, my wife picked the wrong key(un-chiped) one day to drive my truck and it wouldn't start. She sat trying and trying , almost burning out my starter. In a calm voice told her to take key and LOCK it in the safe and NEVER touch it again.

Re: Chip Keys

Yeah, I think she figured that out after looking at both keys. She woke me up around 2am, (my time) to tell me the truck wouldn't start. I almost had to replace the wife.lol.
