Driving in the snow

Hello everyone. Have not been around for awile. I am going up to lake tahoe for a week. I have BFG AT 315-75-17 on my titan. 4Wd I was told as long as the tire says M+S on them I should not need chains. I know there are people on here that drive In nasty weather all the time. Feedback would be great. Do I put it in 4 high if it gets nasty and take my time without chains or should I get chains just in case

Yes, get chains. The locals all have them.

Re: Driving in the snow

When I had a 4wd I never bothered with chains and never really needed them. Those tires should be fine.

Re: Driving in the snow

Put about 150-200 lbs in the back over the rear axle. Sand bags or even boxes of kitty litter works fine.

4H should work fine 99% of the time. Still, chains are nice to have. They are great in getting you out of situations that you got into with 4 wheel drive. Also, remember, when in 4 wheel drive, use the chains on the front wheels.

Good luck.

I was at Tahoe last year and rented a Durango and a Armada. The Armada did real good with the all seasons and the durango did terrible with all seasons on. Around town you will do just fine there. But if you plan on going over the passes there I would not go without a set of chains. Do not underestimate the need for them on the passes. There are checkpoints there and will need either chains or 4X4 to pass. I dont think I saw anyone going up to the pass without chains 4x4 or not.Good luck! Here is what we encountered there last year

Re: Driving in the snow

Last year I was at big bear in the middle of a storm, in my 4x4 and chains were not required, had no problems! I have heard that some places require chains regardless, so I would call ahead. Have fun, it's to bad Hooli and SD won't be there to pull out.
