Re: Help with volunteer ambulance lights for brother's Titan.
What state are you (your brother) in? A lot of states have a rule of 360 degree visible warning. Most likely you can get by with it depending on your state and the department he will be running for.
It's a lot more expensive, but the more LED used, the better. If he's (you) aren't planning on having an actual lightbar of any kind, I wouldn't mess with strobes at all. Why? Because of the following:
**You have to drill (usually 1") a hole in your light and have to seal it well to keep out moisture. Not a huge deal, but a PITA if he gets rid of the truck
**about 98% of strobes need a seperate power supply, just add's to cost and wiring.
**strobes do burn out and fail (not as much as halogen, but more so than led)
I haven't done anything to the Titan, but have had emergency lights on several other vehicles and still work for a fire department where we replace haologen and strobe bulbs constantly, but never mess with the LED's.
check galls.com for some idea's, then search on ebay... they don't allow red or blue to be sold, but if you find what you like, email the seller as most will arrange the proper color's.
PM me if you have some more questions....

I like the the leds too but I havent had any probs with my strobes and I have had them for almost 2 years and probably use them way more than any police of fireman. They are on almost every day all day. I can leave them on for over 5 hours without starting the truck without running the batt. down. Cant say that for a light bar with motorized flashers thats for sure. You do not have to seal the lights after the install. Any moisture that gets in is very quickly burned off by the lights once turned on. But it is always better to drill the best hole and seal if you want. I just have a rubber foam washer to seal them. It took about 4 hours to install the 4 corner flashers and about 3 hours for the ones in the grill and back window.

Re: Help with volunteer ambulance lights for brother's Titan.
Certainly, strobes will absolutely get the job done and as with yours, I've seen some GREAT setup's using strobes.
I just prefer LED's now since the price has come down and most of the flash patterns are easily selectable without a seperate power supply/controller. I think the visibility of them is higher than strobes too (at least during dawn/dusk hours).
I certainly wouldn't spend the money for a halogen light bar, not worth it compared to anything else on the market, and like you said, takes a huge electrical load.
Can't go wrong with LED or strobe...

Agreed! A lightbar is not worth it considering what is on the market now. The only thing I dont like about LED's is they start to fade in visibility anymore than 35 to 40 degrees off center. The strobes can be seen from everywhere but draw a bit more power than the LED's and the LED's draw next to nothing.

Re: Help with volunteer ambulance lights for brother's Titan.
www.thefirestore.com and Galls are a good place to get your lights. Maybe even a wig wag for the headlamps?
Does your state have the rule like CA where you need one continuiously burning red lamp visible for 1000 ft? I'm not sure if the LED's will reach that far...
Re: Help with volunteer ambulance lights for brother's Titan.
I found these guys when we needed something at work. check em out, they are a little on the pricey side, but top notch quality. http://www.code3pse.com/

Here are the pics you requested in your PM.
Pic 1 - LED's in the grill
Pic 2 - Strobe power box mounted under seat
Pic 3 - Only visible wires between the passenger and kick plate. There are 4 holes drilled to the outside under the kick plate.
Pic 4 - Wires coming out under the kick plate to outside.
Pic 5 - Wires running down stock wire bundle attached by zip ties.
More coming....................

Re: Help with volunteer ambulance lights for brother's Titan.
Pic 1 - Rear mounted LED's there are 6 all together in the back window.
Pic 2 - Switch set up for strobes
Pic 3 - Connection behind switch. Simple Cat 5 cable to keep everything clean and VERY easy to run wire.
Hope this helps you!

Re: Help with volunteer ambulance lights for brother's Titan.
The LED behind the front grille is going extremely well! Once I have enough posts I will put up some pics, lol.
Anyway,
I am concerned with where I should install the front strobes. I removed one of the massive headlight housings (which I do not want to even imagine how much costs). There is clearance underneath the headlight portion to drill for a strobe, but the reflective bottom of the light slopes up where the housing bottom remains flat, this will leave the base of the strobe bulb obscured by the reflector inside the headlight.
Any ideas would be great. I plan to remove a taillight later.

why not just wire a wig wag into the headlights and use them as strobes?
