drivers side door handle

Just wanted to know if anyone has had problems with the outside door handles. I have an 05 Titan KC 4x4 with 33,000 miles. Being in New England the weather tends to get cold, although we have had a mild winter so far. Anyway anytime it gets below freezing the outside drivers door handle gets stuck and when i finally open it and get in I have to lock it manually to keep it shut. once the truck warms up i.e. defrost it works fine. Anyone else hear of this problem. Thanks for your time

Re: drivers side door handle

i had something like that to, i was going to work on a saturday i left the titan outside over night, dont remember why. i got up remote started it, ate breakfast and went out to the truck and it the door wouldent close. i tried about 10 times to shut it untill i got out, i closed the door and puled it open with the handle, and the handle didnt pull out all the way. i helld the door with my right hand and pulled the handle with my left hand it it broke loose, the hanlde froze. i was really confused why that happened, it was cold but when i opened it, it didnt return back to how it is suppost to be when the handle isnt being pulled on, its ike it instantly froze. since then i never had a prob with it.

Re: drivers side door handle

yeah that happens all the time to me. i park my truck outside so when it gets really cold i have the best solution. i have a very small heater and a plastic tarp. i put the tarp over my truck and then the heater under the truck. i set the heater to 55 degrees and let it run all night, (if i dont the doors freeze every night) then when i wake up i take the tarp off and unplug the heater. this works every time. i had the door handle break off so i came up with this idea.

There is a TSB for frozen door handle.

As stated above, two of my doors and sometimes a third door would freeze. The dealer called yesterday to say all four new cables are in and to make an appointment to get it repaired. If I can find the TSB I'll send the link.

Re: drivers side door handle

Love the idea of putting a 'blanket' over the truck with a heater! Man, thought I babied MY truck! But it does sound like a pain in the butt!

Replace a cable: under warranty, adjust a cable: NOT under warranty?!? Huh? That's total BS! If the door doesn't work properly due to a mechanical failure then that's their problem and it should be covered under warranty. And I would call a cable that doesn't allow a basic function of the truck to work properly, a mechanical failure. It's not on the maintenance list is it? It's not easily adjusted is it? Is it designed for the end user to easily adjust it? No. Then it's THEIR problem. I would have told the dealer "Fine, show me on my maintenance list where I should adjust it." "No? Then show me where in the manual is says anything about the proper way to adjust the cable inside the doors!" Dealer Dealers Dealers..........I swear!

The bottom of the glass hangs a bit below the bottom of the opening.
They said it takes about an hour per door to do.

Re: drivers side door handle

Although I havn't had the TSB performed, it seems as though it's not a perfect fix.

Frozen Door Handles

Good Luck.

Re: drivers side door handle

I hope after opening my four doors and replacing the cables that it's good forever..... I'll let you all know as the winter moves on.
