Altima Coupe

Have heard the Maxima is gonna be fazed out in the next 3 years, don't know if it's true or not, but have heard the Altima will take it's place as Nissans flagship sedan and will have a coupe version. Here's some pics, sorry if this is old news.

Re: Altima Coupe

I can't see them getting rid of the Maxima. It competes with the Avalon. I saw the couple Altima at the LA Convention center auto show a couple of weeks ago. I wish I could have sat in it. It looks pretty nice.

Re: Altima Coupe

There's also going to be a smaller SUV sized just under the current Murano.

Called the Rogue.

As for the Maxima, I think that Nissan would move to redesign this car as a more upscale vehicle. Road manners, interior quality, and distintive styling are lacking on the Maxima at this price point. Right now it is plagued with gadgets and feels dated.

My guess is that the Maxima gets bigger and sportier to compete with other luxury sedans. Focus on sleeker lines and addressing the torque steer problem, improve balance and handling, quiet down the interior, and improve interior materials/quality. It would be nice to see a luxury wagon as well. A long shot for this vehicle is to offer an all wheel drive as with the Infinity.

Nissan needs to give this car the solid feel and handling that German luxury cars offer with Japanese brand value, in order to earn market share for this segment.

Correct you are. The next generation Maxima will be built on the new M platform and offer an AWD option.

Re: Altima Coupe

Not sure about overall dimensions...but an Avalon has far more interior space than a Maxima. The Avalon is wider, too.

Motor Spend says the Avalon is the car that Buick should be building. Meaning the Avalon is bought by geezers (I had a new '99 ) that appreciate quality.

IMO, the Avalon is a better car than an Maxima...I've owned both.

Re: Altima Coupe

The thinking I heard about fazing out the Max was that to update and upgrade it significantly would push it to Infinity quality and price and Nissan wants you to go Infinity before down grading for a Nissan. At least thats what is being kicked around the grape vine.
Personally, I love our 06 Max and hope they don't faze it out. On one hand seems kinda dumb, but on the other hand if Nissan's top of the line sedan is so nice you will get that instead of a Infinity, I can see where you would want to push the fence sitter buyer into your luxury division.

Heck the Altima and Maxima are almost the same size now aren't they?
Our neighbors Alty sitting next to our Max looks alot alike.

Re: Altima Coupe

The new Altima is a very nice car, just don't try to sit in the back seat if you're anywhere near 6'; it was really cramped back there. I wouldn't even want to do that to my 13yo who's 5'6".

As far as Maxima; Nissan really shot themselves in the foot with the latest version - it was too close to the Altima for most buyers to justify the higher price. really liked that glass roof though.

I think we've probably all heard something about the Maximas demize but I think it was talking about the current version only....getting rid of the old FWD version and bringing in the new RWD "M" platform.

Re: Altima Coupe

That altima coupe looks like a g35 coupe.

The currect altima is very similar to the maxima, and basically maxima buyers are paying to much when they could have bought an altima instead.
