LOL!!! Silverado VortecMax!!!!

MAX sprints to 60 in 7.5 seconds, accompanied by a ferocious sucking sound from the tuned intake (two resonators bulge from the intake pipe). The brakes — four-wheel discs with ABS — stopped everything in 186 feet from 70 mph. Although most truckers aren’t venturesome in the twisties, our test truck carved around the skidpad at 0.74 g, enough to tip any untethered Frigidaire into the ditch.

VEHICLE TYPE: front-engine, rear/4-wheel-drive, 5-passenger, 4-door truck

PRICE AS TESTED: $41,959 (base price: $38,990)

ENGINE TYPE: pushrod 16-valve V-8, iron block and aluminum heads, port fuel injection
Displacement: 364 cu in, 5967cc
Power (SAE net): 367 bhp @ 5500 rpm
Torque (SAE net): 375 lb-ft @ 4300 rpm

TRANSMISSION: 4-speed automatic

DIMENSIONS:
Wheelbase: 143.5 in
Length: 230.2 in
Width: 80.0 in
Height: 73.7 in
Curb weight: 5600 lb

C/D TEST RESULTS:
Zero to 60 mph: 7.5 sec
Zero to 90 mph: 16.4 sec
Street start, 5–60 mph: 7.7 sec
Standing ¼-mile: 15.8 sec @ 89 mph
Top speed (governor limited): 98 mph
Braking, 70–0 mph: 186 ft
Roadholding, 300-ft-dia skidpad: 0.74 g

FUEL ECONOMY:
EPA city driving: 15 mpg
C/D-observed: 12 mpg

LOL!!!!!!! Man......way to go Chevy!!!!!

Re: LOL!!! Silverado VortecMax!!!!

364HP and only 15.8? not even as fast as a stock Titan with 305HP (underrated horsepower that is).

Re: LOL!!! Silverado VortecMax!!!!

That can't be! 364hp and only 15.8 in the 1/4 mile? Something wrong there. They got to be faster than that unless they gained alot of weight during the redesign. The front doors are pretty heavy on those new GMT900's.

Only 98mph for the top speed? GM sure sets those speed limiters pretty low on their trucks, don't they? LOL!

On his way to a Nobel prize in literature, no doubt.

Re: LOL!!! Silverado VortecMax!!!!

That ancient 4 spd auto isnt helping matters at all. If they threw in the 6 spd from the escalade, then maybe those numbers would improve. But GM will never do that when they can charge you $45k for a sierra denali or $60k for the caddylanche. I like my stock $22k 4x4 that can run at least .2 quicker in the quarter mile.

Re: LOL!!! Silverado VortecMax!!!!

I'm pretty much stoke that my cheap @ss $18K truck can spank the hell out of that Chevy...lol. GM DITCH THE 4 SPD. All they did was super glue an overdrive gear to the 3 spd they have had since the 60's....lol

Titan gives 50-60 Hp and beats the 6.0L...Way to go Chevy! Titans ran 15.3-15.6 stock in 04'. Looks like more overated motor output.

Maybe they just don't put the power to the ground with the old 4-spd. Glad I have a Titan

Re: LOL!!! Silverado VortecMax!!!!

Just to provide some balance, the MAX was designed for towing, so while it may fall short in the race area, it could have a great torque curve for towing...Chevy's 8.1L isn't the fastest horse in the stable, but it is a Clydsdale(sp?)

Re: LOL!!! Silverado VortecMax!!!!

If I remember correctly the 5.6 was made for towing/Tq also we still have a higher Tq output....380 stock.

That truck is pretty heavy at 5,600lbs...takes Tq to get a big boat off the line not Hp, I guess GM is still trying to figure that out!
