Angry Frozen door latch problem not solved...Please advise

I still can't have a passenger ride in the front seat.....I posted this problem a while back and was given a link by another TT member to the NTSB's bulletin on the frozen latch problem (along with replacement part numbers), and assumed that when I went to the dealer the problem would be taken care of....

HOWEVER, I went to the dealer and after talking to the service guy he said that the problem was only present on 04-05 Titans and Nissan had solved that problem by swapping out the 04-05 components with the "Newly Engineered" ones featured in the 06-07's....the thing is my truck is a 2006!!! So apparently Nissan never actually solved the problem...IS THIS F*CKING TRUCK ONLY SUPPOSED TO BE DRIVEN IN THE SUMMER?????? If so they should just close up shop here in Alaska...

The service guy said he would submit the report to the regional parts supplier (in Seattle I assume) to let Nissan know that the 2006-2007 models may be vulnerable to this problem too...

Move out of alaska?

Sorry I'm no help. Never had that problem....

Personally, I would try pestering the dealer a little more...

Re: Frozen door latch problem not solved...Please advise

My truck is getting new lock cables next week. I was looking forward to not having to deal with this again and after reading your post, they just might freeze again.
Your dealer NEEDS to deal with your truck no matter that they "fixed" the issues in previous years. Tell him to drive your truck for a week and try to get in your truck (and fail) in sub freezing weather and see how he enjoys it.
Nissan needs to use traditional rods in the doors like in the good old days.
All these new items are for them to control cost, not because the new way is better. I think progress at times is working in reverse.

It doesn't matter what the TSB say, if your door handle is not working they need to fix it under warranty (you're still under warranty right?). That's BS saying it's not the right year for the fix. I would call Nissan USA and b!tched.

Re: Frozen door latch problem not solved...Please advise

I had the frozen door handle latch thingy going on last year. All four of my doors would freeze shut overnight and there was no way of getting in (if and when i did, the door would not shut. I would literally have to hold it closed until it thawed out). I had the TSB done and so far not one door as been a problem. I was in eastern Oregon down to 2 degrees a couple times, and they still opened right up after sitting overnight.

Re: Frozen door latch problem not solved...Please advise

sometimes snow/ice builds up in the groove behind the door handle preventing the door to be opened from inside or outside.

pull the handle out as far as it goes, and remove any snow ice behind it

Re: Frozen door latch problem not solved...Please advise

Guys,

Get used to it. My dealer has done everythig under the sun, but the driver door only still freezes.

I feel your pain. It is frustrating.

Your door lock remote will roll the windows down. If you can get the window down and open it with the inside handle, it will reshut - not likely on really cold days, but it has worked for me.

My doors also freeze .... I can open them easily, but they won't shut .... I keep a ratcheting tie-strap in my door pocket and when this happens I hook the tie strap from the inside of the passenger door to the inside of the drivers door and ratchet it up snug ..... after about 15 minutes with the heater blowing, the door latches work ..... yea, it sucks having the tie strap between you're belly and the steering wheel, but I'm too dang lazy to make my way back to the dealer knowing that the chances are good they won't fix it anyway.

Thumbs down Re: Frozen door latch problem not solved...Please advise

This problem although seemingly "minor" is almost enough to make me want to trade the truck in tommorow!

I have loved everything else about this truck so far, but this problem is absolutely inexcusable...Why sell Titans in cold climate areas if it's not built to the quality necessary to perform in subzero temps?? The forecast for this week alone is calling for high temps from -8F to 0F...so it looks like I won't have a passenger ride in my truck until the end of April when the temps finally stay above 32F...

File a complaint with the National Highway Safety web site. Since this has become a safety issue, they can force a recall to get it fixed. Safety issues are addressed first and foremost. Tell them that he door would not latch and you almost fell out. Better yet, tell them that a child almost fell out when the door came open. That will get their attention.

Re: Frozen door latch problem not solved...Please advise

I have never had this problem and we usually have snow 4 months out of the year. Sounds like its unique to your truck. Tell them you want new doors and ask to speak to the Nissan Rep. That usually puts a fire under the service man's fat butt.

Re: Frozen door latch problem not solved...Please advise

sorry to hear about teh door freezing up, i just washed my truck yesterday in this cold weather, i guess i am lucky that mine doesn't freeze, this is the first i have heard about this, on my old truck i would spray windex then WD-40 in the handle where it goes into the door and the latch, would not freeze up after that, however u shouldn't have to deal with that.

Re: Frozen door latch problem not solved...Please advise

Sorry to hear about the trouble you are having. I have to say that on my previous '05 did have the freezing handle problem. The handles and cables were replaced under the TSB and never had a freezing problem since.

You obviously have an issue with a part that is not working properly. The dealer should repair the problem making sure that the updated handles are used. You would think that the handles on the 06 are updated, but you also have to wonder if there was some overlap. Is it possible that when 06 models were being produced that some 05 handles were still in inventory?

I hope the dealer resolves the problem to your satisfaction.
