Slip control by ABS?

I've noticed lately that when driving on icy roads or deep snow that I get a broken glass sound I'm assuming from the brakes when the wheels are slipping. And I'll also get the SLIP light on the dash. I don't have VDC. Is this all normal??

Re: Slip control by ABS?

Yeah, the ABLS (Active Brake Limited Slip) senses wheel spin, actuates the brake caliper to brake the rotor on the spinning wheel, causing transfer of torque through the spider gears of the (otherwise conventional open) differential.

IMHO, this pretty much sux in snow country, compared to a TruTrac. (aftermarket limited slip which replaces the OEM spider gears & ring gear carrier in the rear diff.) (although you probably wouldn't want that if you have the e-locker.)

Re: Slip control by ABS?

It gets to be a little annoying after a while but, I guess its doing its job well enough. This may be the best truck I've ever had in the snow.

Re: Slip control by ABS?

I just came back from Muddin' in a construction site i put the truck into 2wd and took vdc off.The puddle didnt look that deep so i went in slow but once the rear tires were in the car was struggling. I gave her 1/2 throttle and then 3/4 she spun like crazy (had the speedo reading 45). I was sure that the truck was gonna be stuck but abls did its job and slowly but surely i got through it. The only disadvantage is that the brakes heat up and will start steaming.

Okay, so is the True Track locker a limited slip or a locked differential solution? I thought we didn't have any limited slip options for our trucks?
