How Do You Purchase Items From Individuals Online?
I have always used PayPal to purchase items from individuals online. I have been negotiating with a member here (I am not going to name names and I am not saying this person is dishonest!!!!!!) and they want a check or money order. Are there any problems with PayPal that I am not aware of??
I have never had a problem and find it very simpe and secure. I simply send the money to the persons email and DONE.
What do you think about PAYPAL and how do you deal online?

i always use paypal and that's it. if they don't accept it, i search elsewhere. that's just me though. i think if someone is selling something online, they better be prepared for an online payment. it's your risk, not theirs. just my 2 cents.

Look, I'm not trying to screw you, I just don't see the point in setting up a paypal account to use it once. If you don't want to buy the wheels, then don't. I already have two more people in line for them anyways.

I've been a paypal premier buisness member for almost 5 years and have had few problems with many many transactions. I love the security features and seller protection. Yellowmantis... it's not that big of a deal to setup a personal account you never know when you mite use it again. I set up mine for a one time thing, and use it for a small buisness lol... just sayin...
Re: How Do You Purchase Items From Individuals Online?
Usually, the only thing that most people beef about is the fact that the receiver of the payment pays a fee for the Paypal account. If your monthly transactions are less than $3000, which is most of us, when someone pays you, Paypal takes $0.30 and 2.9% of the payment. It's not much, I admit, but if the payment is large like for cars or appliances or something big, well, you do the math..... But the payer has no fees, just the payee.
Oh, and as your monthy transactions increase, the fee percentage goes down. Just FYI.....

If someone wants to be paid with a money order, I usually go down and get a "Postal Money Order" from the post office. Mail fraud is a federal offense and from what I understand is dealt with by the USPS quite seriously. That said, some people don't want to deal with PayPal, don't want their account info online and don't want to get charged fees for collecting their money. It's not unreasonable. I've dealt with Yellowmantis and he's a stand up guy.
Re: How Do You Purchase Items From Individuals Online?
personally, i have sold hundreds of things online. i prefer dealing with US Post office money orders only. reason being, it is as good as cash, and i can cash it right there at the post office. and it is a federal offense to commit fraud using a postal money order, so that would keep most sellers from messing around.
you will have to trust the seller, and i have people call me to discuss the deal over the phone, so they feel comfortable. i have gotten screwed by bank checks, and paypal. so, i prefer having cash in my hand before selling an item.
with paypal, the buyer can do a chargeback, then you have to fight it out with paypal. then there are the fees... so, i would rather have cash, something they cannot take away from me before i send out an item. some do not feel comfortable, and i completely understand given there are a lot of scammers out there.

What many of you don't know is...for every car sold at end of auction on ebay, there are hundreds of cars sold after the auctions close. Many ppl are now using ebay strictly as a listing agent, keeping the reserve sky high.
When the car is a no sale at end of auction, usually it sells within hours, after. ebay sees nothing but the listing fees.

I have a PayPal account and I do use it from time to time. I got the account because there was something I wanted and that was the only payment option the ebayer would take. Often though I still send out a money order in a registered letter. It really all boils down to what the seller wants, and if the buyer wants what the seller has, the seller indeed get's to pick the payment type.

Re: How Do You Purchase Items From Individuals Online?
PayPal has it advantages and disadvantages. Most of the disadvantages are to the seller because they have to give a portion of there money to Paypal. Now, if you were willing to pay the fee on top of the cost of the merchandise then I don't see a problem. The advantages of payPal that I like are that I can ship it thru payPal and get the buyer a tracking # ASAP to put him at ease about the transaction.
I would NEVER EVER do a cash transaction online. It's a matter of principle for me. Plus people suck and are untrustworthy in the end when it comes to the almighty $$$$.
