foe a minute I was >< close to earning the respect of my friends who constantly get on my case for buying a japanese truck. They all drive silverado's and F-150's.
after letting them drive it and seing the grins on their faces and smoking all of theirs I'd been almost two weeks since I'd heard a peep.
then comes tonite, on my way home from work coming out of the lot and get caught in a rut... one tire caught in a I'd say no more than 2 foot by two foot rut hidden by the grass... looked perfectly flat and level.
How ridiculous does it look for a bigass silver 4 door truck to be crippled by a rut? one wheel in there and I'm fuqued... no 4wd 50 feet at most from the pavement. (didn't consider it too hard to save gas and because I never venture off road much, and save $$) even more ridiculous was how close I was to getting it out without having to call the chevy boys for a tow. inches! on the very edge of the hole but no such luck of getting out.
If your friends can't respect for what the Titan represents, then maybe it's time to go look for some new friends. At least Nissan hit a homerun with their first true F-U-L-L-S-I-Z-E import truck. They didn't have 80+ years to slowly develop the brand like the domestics. They didn't half azz it like Toyota did with the tepid 3/4th's scale Tundra.
You gotta give props to Nissan no matter what brand you're loyal to. Competition in the marketplace is what yields a better product for all. The domestic loyalists ought to be thankful for that. Nissan gives you the BIG engine as standard equipment. No half stepping it with some puny 4.0L based V8. You get five point six friggen liters of pure brute power in every Titan. Chevy has to come out with a 6.0L Vortec Max towing package just to keep up and they still can't match the 385TQ on the new Titan. And, Ford with their heavy azz frame and weak 365TQ 5.4 Triton can't match it either.
Why do you need their respect anyway? The Titan IS the better value and they probably know it. Do them a favor and tell them to trade their trucks in for some Titans.

Who cares of what others think. I don't want too many people buying Titans and wrecking them anyways. My insurance will just go up like my EVO. Can't help but laugh all the way to the insurance company when full coverage insurance is only $350 every six months.

You should ask them where there trucks were made. Chances are either Mexico or Canada.
The Titan is just as much or even more AMERICAN than the rest of them. I'm glad that it was built with Japanese technology though.

I'm assuming yours is a 2WD? Ask your friends to get into the same rut in 2WD and to see if they can get out - if they can, then they can brag, if not, then you can tell them it's all because the truck is in 2WD.
Most likely, if you're in 2WD and with an open differential or even a LS, the drive wheel may not get enough traction to get you out.

That's funny. It reminds me of a couple of weeks ago out at cyote canyon in anza borrego. I made it all the up the rock slide and was runnin around with a bunch of 4runners & FJ's. Well I made it back down the rock slide and pulled off the trail to let others by, and bam up and over a rock and bottomed out on my traction bar just enough to keep the wheel off the deck! lucky for me a FJ guy whinched me 12 inches to get clear. Shiot happens.
Tillery - what a great reason to invest in a winch and a Hi-Lift for future wheeling.

The rear locker didn't help? I'd think that'd save your butt!

Did you try tapping the brakes with the tire spinning? Sometimes that will make the lame-*** open diff make the side with traction spin.
I was messing around and got my Tacoma stuck in a pile of snow... This is even worse than your situation, since its 4wd. I had one front and one rear tire on a surface with traction and the ones that had no traction because of the way the truck was sitting were spinning. This was in my own driveway, and my neighbor came over and helped dig it out... In his clapped out 94 Cavalier, which made it over with no problem! God, I felt like a tool.
