ABS makes weird grinding noise?

I recently had some winter weather up here, and while I was on ice (in a safe place) I hit the brakes hard a couple of time to see how the ABS worked. It seemed to work ok, but made an aweful noise and the brake pedal pumped itself while I was braking. Is this normal? The noise the ABS made sounded like grinding gears, combined with the gurgling noise your abdomen makes when you have the world's worst case of mud butt. Does anyone know if this normal for the Titan ABS? It functioned fine, but the noise and the pumping was a little suprising. My Titan is 2005 SE w/ 28k miles.

Mine does this all the time on ice and snow. Normal....except for your mud butt LOL
