I have Light steering feel at highway speed does any body else?
Hello Guys,
I am new to the site it was great to find it!
About 3 months ago while on a trip up I 77 at 70MPH my truck needed lots of steering corrections at speed . THe feel of the steering was very light. Also was hearing rattle in the front somewhere.
When I returned I took the truck to nissan, when i got the truck back it was much tighter at speed.
Recently had trouble with vibration in the truck at all speeds. They aligned the front end and balanced the tires. The vibration was fixed by rebalanacing the tires at the tire shop where I bought my new BFgoodrichAT KO tires . It turned out Nissan balancer needs calibrated.
But now my truck steering is way to easy even at slow speeds. The screwed up somthing searching fo the vibration problem which was
caused by them.
Of course they have no record of what they did to correct the first report of light steering.
Look at my other post in "vibration problems"
Any ideas would be helpfull thank you.

What do you mean "no record?" Everything done on an RO (repair order) is recorded...this is where Carfax gets their data for their reports. It's also the law.
Loose steering is either in the steering gearbox, or at the draglink/tie rods. It seems to me that whatever was done to tighten, has loosened. Overinflating front tires can also cause a light steering wheel feel.

Maybe it wasn't Nissans balancer but the tires themselves.....most likely cause. If they have no record, and they did the work, they never closed out the RO. In answering your original question though, no....I've never noticed the steering to be "light".

Carfax doesn't record maintainance/repair info thru dealer ROs. They record title, registration, odometer (throught inspection records). They also show reported accident records but minor accidents usually go unreported (anything over $600 has to be reported by law) and SOME recall work.

Re: I have Light steering feel at highway speed does any body else?
Thanks guys for responding.
I went back to Nissan on Friday after the tire shop replace the 2 slightly out of round tires.
Let me start at the beginning. The tires were put on and balanced by the tire shop, Then Nissan Aligned the front end. I then put 2400miles on it with no vibration in one trip. Then after I got home I thought one of the stick on wheel weights came off, and the truck had a pull to the left. Itook it back to nissan for them to recheck the alignment.
After Nissan began working on the truck did I start with vibration and steering problems.
This is when the severe vibration could be felt at all speeds just sitting in the truck going down the road. The vibration and "light" steering started after they started working on it.
When I was at Nissan on Friday the service writer was looking for my complaint before about loose steering at speed and could not find a metion in my record. I then asked if he minded if I look over his shoulder which I did and did not see any record of it. Although he went threw the record rather quickly and did not open any records we did not see any mention of prior problems regarding steering.
I use this truck for my business which I travel for at high way speed and until they can do something to make it back like it was last thursday and can tell me what happened before all this I am going to be real cautious about drive it. As it turns out in an up coming trip I have to deliver a machine to a customer which is 6k on my trailer and this has me worried.

Something smells, and it ain't hay!
When you complained initially, did the dealer write up a repair order specifying the issue?
When you picked up the truck, did they give you a receipt?
(By law, they are supposed to).
It's possible that something phony was done on that repair order.
It's called scam the manufacturer...it's possible that something was charged to your repair order that wasn't done...the dealer writes up an issue, then charges Nissan for work they didn't perform. (this is nothing new).
Now you want to see a copy of the REAL work that was performed, and the dealer can't find it?

Anytime you go to the dealer, get a copy of your RO!! ALWAYS! Even if they hold it open for ordered parts etc, tell them you want a copy of it. If you've made a complaint, be sure they type it in so it's on the RO including the copy you walk away with. If they don't want to give it to you, ask for the SM and insist. That way you will always have proof.

No No I wasn't mad at you, nothing of the kind...I just wanted to point out the scam(s) that dealers perform..and the possibility that the dealer could have written up a phony claim...charging Nissan for ball joints and labor (for example).
Now the owner wants to see the R/O.(the dealer realizes he lost/didn't get a copy)..and they don't dare show it to him...for obvious reasons.
