Re: Spark Plug change

don't mess with them right now. you might want to start thinking about it when you get to 80-100k.

Re: Spark Plug change

Modern spark plugs in modern motors with no problems, go 80,000 miles easily these days. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

that question may cause a stir, but IMHO the factory plugs are the only way to go for a non-supercharged/turbo engine. Now, I'm not saying to buy them at the dealer, but I'm not trusting another manufacture to have the correct plug, I don't want one that's close and fits, i want the excact one designed for my engine!!

By the way, if anybody tries to sell you some "super-duper" multi-electrode, triple Lindy plug to gain HP...Give them the boot, not happening!

Re: Spark Plug change

I'd stick with the….if it aint broke don't fix it.

I have noticed that on modern engines that you don't have to change the plugs very often, the manufacturers use Platinum (some may be using Iridium now) and they tend to narrow gap the plugs. I'm not saying this for all manufactures, but having a narrower gap (sometimes smaller than recommended) increases the longevity of the plugs. The narrower gap is good for longevity, but will cut down on the performance side. I've never checked the ones in my Titan, so I’m not really sure what their gap is from the factory. I may go do that now out of curiosity.

If you supercharge or slap a turbo on your truck I'd recommend switching to the el cheapo Copper plugs. They may only last 5-10k miles, but they disperse the extra cyl heat a lot better than platinum or iridium.

For instance on my Audi the plug specs are .028-.032. The stock plugs are gapped at .026-.027. Also the stock plugs are platinum. I switched to Copper and noticed better, smoother performance and a lot better idle, although the car is turbocharged.

Re: Spark Plug change

I don't think i've changed a spark plug since the 70's. Back then it was standard procedure to change, plugs, points, and condenser to insure it would start in cold weather, but with todays newer engines and all the electronic crap, plugs should last for way over 100K. I just trade and let the new guy change the plugs.

That's what I do! I don't keep things long enough to change plugs...sometimes even tires!
