Tow ball mount issue

Ok I feel really stupid about this... My friend built me a trailer to tow a 40 foot center console boat (ie long trailer)..I tried to use it to tow my 31 footer to some fishing competition across a border here..

Now the trailer for sure has some SERIOUS design flaws, but on my friend's Tahoe, the trailer and the tow ball mount were higher than what u see in the picture...I mean much higher..

My question is this; is it ok to turn the ball mount the other way thus giving me a higher clearance? (of course I would change the towball the other way around)..Not sure if this is the idea behind that ball mount or if its ok to do so..

Felt really stupid , I tell you

Re: Tow ball mount issue

I have done it but I was only towing an 18 foot bowrider and I did'nt have that much of a drop. It looks like you have some serious weight there. If I were you I would go with a more beefier setup. Check this link out It can be used eighter way ( raise or drop). and its adjustable to level you out. More money but peace of mind. Good luck

Re: Tow ball mount issue

Wow!! You are a brave man. I can't believe you actually towed with that setup.

By the looks of it, if you turn that hitch upside down you will be too high. Get rid of that hitch and get one that is straight or with just a small amount of drop, i.e. one inch and turn it upside down.

On second thought, a better and safer alternative would be to have the coupler on the trailer lowered by several inches.

Re: Tow ball mount issue

You can reverse ball mounts. Most are designed to be used as a drop or a lift. Check the label on yours.

Sure! That's a very common practice. The better thing to do would be to buy a height adjustable mount. That way you can use it for different applications. But yes, it's safe to flip it and remount the ball.

Re: Tow ball mount issue

Just put a bigger tire on that jack and ride it like that.... That's the craziest towing picture that I have seen on here.
