SLIP light question...

Why exactly do I have this???

My Titan in an '05 4x4 Big Tow without the VDC, and let me just add I was thrilled when the '05s came out and I could get the Titan without VDC!

Now that we have finally gotten some snow and loosing traction in 2WD happens easy I'm amazed how seldom the SLIP light actually turns on. I can hear the ABLS system working from the sounds under the dash and I can feel the backened working to get a grip, and only once in a while do I actually see the SLIP light come on.

I have spun the rear tires fairly fast on purpose in the snow and have just barely broken them loose on ice and it is all the same, I hear the sounds and know ABLS is working, but only seldome does the idiot light actually blink.

Is my truck the only one like this or is this normal?

Nope, the light lights up when the ignition turn to the 1st notch when all the lights light up, and the SLIP light does come on from time to time, but there just seems to be a big delay. If I'm just getting a little slip I hear the ABLS and no light. If I'm in the snow and the rears tires are spinning for alonger period of time the light will eventually blink.

I guess my question is more if the ABLS system is super fast and I can hear it working, why is it the darn light takes so long to light? If I hear the ABLS working and I lift off the gas slightly and allow the tires to hook up themselves the light never comes on, but I know for a fact initially the system was engaged, the sound is just flat out hard to ignore.

Re: SLIP light question...

Just remember one thing, it is an idiot light, just like any other dash light. It is not always going to respond when you would think. As long as the ABLS is doing its job then you have nothing to worry about. My opinion is that the wheels slip with less tq on ice/snow then they do in mud/off roading and of course burnouts so it takes less throttle to get them to spin, the brake system works faster. But thats just my opinion and observation.

I'll buy that logic...
I guess I just thought
1- it should react quicker
2- I saw it a lot more last winter *
3- I'm not worried so much as just curious

* I wonder if I'm seeing it less because the tires are hooking up quicker, last year I was on the crappy OEM BFGs, this year I'm on REVO Duelers.

Re: SLIP light question...

I live down a long red dirt road and when it is wet it is very slick. My light doesn't come on if the slip is only for a short time. If the tire slips for more than a few seconds then the light will start flashing.

Ok, that is exactly the way mine is working. I'm just wondering now if the reason I seem to see the light less now is because the new tires are getting a grip sooner. It could be I saw the light more last year because once the crappy OEM BFGs started to slip they just kept at it...

Mostly orange, I don't wash it as much as I used to. My slip light doesn't come on very often at all anymore since I switched to the toyo open country M/T.

Re: SLIP light question...

I never seen my SLIP light come on since I had the truck. You said you can feel the trucks ABLS? I dont think I have ever felt it working, lol, in the rain, I can loose traction easily but I dont feel anything actually "working" to get the truck to have more traction.

Re: SLIP light question...

I don't really feel mine working, sometimes in mud I can tell it is doing its thing. But never in the rain can I tell, I just see the light flash sometimes.

You already knew the answer to your own question. You have the light because you also must have rear wheel ABLS. When the system senses one wheel spinning faster than the other, the system brakes the slipping wheel.....thus flashing the SLIP light on the dash. It WILL NOT kick in if BOTH wheels are spinning! It's ABLS, not traction control. It's only meant to mimic a limited slip rear end.

No no....lol...maybe I worded that wrong. I didn't mean it to sound like you asked a useless question. I meant that you knew you didn't have VDC and that ABLS causes the SLIP light to go on (which yo DO have). I then just elaborated on why it blinks the SLIP light.
