Is not having the popular package a deal breaker?

Guys,
I'm planning on going Saturday to hopefully work a good deal on a new 2007 SE CC 2wd. I would really like to buy from this particular dealer, the owner has always been real good to my family. He has a black 2wd, only option being floor mats and a bed extender. I really was wanting the same truck, only with the popular package, but then I got to thinking, do I really need it? With the $1,200 or so that I would save, it would really help with mod money (wheels/tires, aftermarket stereo, etc)

Can anyone give me some feedback?

From what I can tell, the popular package adds the following items:
8-Way Power Driver Side (would be nice)
Steering Wheel Audio Controls (don't really need)
Auto Day/Night Mirror w/Compass & Temperature (kinda cool, my Xterra has this)
Universal Garage Door Opener (don't need)
Adjustable Pedals (don't need)
Extended Overhead Center Console (??)
Dual Media Playback (don't need)
Includes wireless headphone capability and headphone jacks (don't need)
Proximity Sensor (kinda cool)

Sorry for the rambling, just want to make the right decision...

Thanks,
Chad

Re: Is not having the popular package a deal breaker?

Think about it, it probably wouldn't add $20 a month to your payment. That's a good amount of features for the money, too. Maybe you don't need them, but they are cool to have! It's your money and truck. Do what you like, bro!

Let's look at this

8-Way Power Driver Side (would be nice) Are you really going to move your seat around a lot??
Steering Wheel Audio Controls (don't really need) You can buy this for $60, and put it in yourself.
Auto Day/Night Mirror w/Compass & Temperature (kinda cool, my Xterra has this)It's cold out!
Universal Garage Door Opener (don't need) Nough said
Adjustable Pedals (don't need) nough said
Extended Overhead Center Console (??)I don't even use mine!
Dual Media Playback (don't need)nough said
Includes wireless headphone capability and headphone jacks (don't need)
Proximity Sensor (kinda cool)Why?

Save yourself the grief of worrying about it. I love mine, and the only options mine had were the floor mats, and a bed liner. Had them add the step rails for $150 extra.

Re: Is not having the popular package a deal breaker?

i would miss the pop package if i didnt have it, i do use the overhead console, keeps the sunglasses from getting scratched, its kinda cool knowing the temp too, if i didnt have the auto-dimming mirrior, i would go buy one (not sure how much they are) i absolutely love them. love the power seats, but if your current vehicle has these options, dont settle for less you will only miss the options and wish you had gotten them...

Another point to ponder is how it might affect resale.

If your going to "primp" your truck and go for the street look then I would get the pop package. If your going to prerunner it and beat the crap out of it like I plan to do then who needs it?

Re: Is not having the popular package a deal breaker?

it's really up to you. from what i've read... from other Titan owners in here, who bought themselves an XE or King Cab... they later traded in their old truck for a model that has more features. so, instead of thinking what's good at "the moment"... try thinking "ahead." for example, are you going to have kids? are you getting married? are you going to need those extra features to make your ride more enjoyable, if you were to take long trips? i know, that when i went and bought mine... i factored in all those circumstances that might happen later.

i did this... because i'm planning to keep this truck for a very long time... and to never regret that i wish i could've "gotten the extra options."

DON'T DO IT! You'll kick yourself if you do without those things. And it's usually the things you say you don't need or don't want that you'll enjoy the most if you have them. Get the exact truck you want. Don't settle. It's only a few bucks more.

Re: Is not having the popular package a deal breaker?

I considered te SE with and without the Pop pkg and ended up with the XE with Pop pkg as being right for me. Ony regret is not having harness for foglights, otherwise it is perfect for me. It is close to the SE without Pop pkg. Had to have electric windows/door locks and alarm.

Re: Is not having the popular package a deal breaker?

really, that $1200 for Pop Pkg. is like what...5 bucks more a month? (Sorry, not too sure if that's correct). I say do it. Sure, you may only move your seat once a year, or never use the wireless headphone capability, but it would help your resale value, should you choose to do that. Additionally, things you say you "don't need" may end up becoming things you wish you had gotten.

It was on someone's sig here, but it was around "It's better to have and not need, than to need and not have"

Re: Is not having the popular package a deal breaker?

I got use to several items on the POP list, overhead which I use almost every day, I dig the Auto-dim mirror with outside temp...have never used the adjustable pedals, and don't move the seat much, BUT...I'm sure all that will help at re-sale time.

yeah, i did alot of thinking before i went to the dealership.

you see, even though i'm not married and still w/ my gf (at the moment)... i'm planning to do it sometime later down the line... and along with that will eventually purchase a house... and have kids. what i didn't want to do, was buy a vehicle that later on end up trading for another model that's better. if i were to do that... i'll never own the truck, since it was a finance vehicle. i guess, i'm just trying to save myself the headache that i know will be in the near future.

as for the options... i love what i got! i love the heated leather seats for cold winter days... the tow package, if i ever needed it to haul a trailer/dolly... the big tow mirrors that helps the blind spots... the dimming rearview mirror that blocks out semi-trucks' lights when i'm on the freeway (late at night)... the step rails for my woman because she's 5' or one day if i injure my leg and need a boost onto my truck... and everything else that wasn't mention. like someone said... just because you think you don't need it now... doesn't mean you won't need it later.

so, if you're going to purchase something... make it worth the first time.

Re: Is not having the popular package a deal breaker?

I only got the floor mats and bedliner on my truck (honestly all I wanted was the floor mats, but....). I too looked down the PP list and wondered if it constituted the extra $1200. The only thing I wish I could have done was get the Off-road or Big Tow package without buying that Popular Package. If you are looking into any of those options you will need the PP, but if you are like me and do not need to tow a 5000+ lbs trailor and would rather install aftermarket off-road equipment, the popular package is not needed. IMHO at least.

On my SE without the PP, the overhead console only extends to the back of the drivers seat. There are 3 compartments for Sunglasses, etc. It just has a blank filler panel for where the compass/temp/garage door things would be. If I ever get around to getting a light bar, I'm considering mounting the toggle switches up overhead on that panel, aircraft style.
