Question Keeps blowing fuse?

Mods please move this to different forum if required.

Did a search and no real answer...

The 10amp fuse under the hood for my console lights keeps blowing! The catch is that it only blows (seemingly) when lights are on and I use the garage door opener. Works fine until then as far as I notice.

My console and such is completely stock and never been apart as far as I know and I'm original owner.

Any ideas on what or how to check it? Should I just try a 15amp fuse?

Thanks in Advance!!!!!

Re: Keeps blowing fuse?

Sounds like a short somewhere. No do not use a 15amp fuse if the original was 10 amp. They out a 10 amp there for a reason. Still under warranty? Let dealer solve it.

Re: Keeps blowing fuse?

OK, I changed the fuse again and all seemed like it was fine. Wife took it out this morning and no center console lights on knobs and such again after closeing garage Heck I tried it about 5 times ?

Anybody have the FSM or know where I can get a schematic of what is powered by this fuse? It's just labled illumination. I'd say it's the garage door opener doing it but it still works after fuse blows and displays compass and temp ??????

It's not under warranty but guess I may need to take it in. Seems like a waste for something that may be simple

Sounds like a short where the sunvisor scews up to the roof. could be on either side or at the maplamp assembly itself. the circuit for the dash illumination has a branch up there. I've fixed a bunch of these like this.

Re: Keeps blowing fuse?

I played wit the maplight and I think the driver's side one is bad. It flickers sometimes now but the fuse is not blowing. Can the entire board in it be replaced?

Re: Keeps blowing fuse?

No but you can take out a few screws and set the assembly down and look and see if you have a wire pinched. As for the map light you might see if you can do something for the switch such as check for a loose connection or maybe replace the switch if you can find a suitable replacement. Oh you may also find that the dash light circuit also runs to the mirror as well as the reverse light circuit if you have to ever track down that strange problem. That's for turning off auto dimming feature when backing up or at night.
